5 comments about Audel Mechanical Trades Pocket Manual.
- Keep this one in the tool box for fast references to many problems encountered by multi-craft maintenance men. This is great for training apprentices and helps those experienced mechanics by providing a handy pocket size reference book. IDEAL for company issue to craft trades.
- If your in the mechanical trades this book has an exceptional wealth of information.information has helped me accomplish tasks in supprising accuracy & time.Nothing can cover an entire subject, yet there is enough information and explainations to get one out of a stickey situation.
- I have to agree with the other reviewers, this book is very handy, and easy to read. It covers quite a lot of ground for a pocket manual, which is great.
There are fifty short chapters in the book, each focused on a different aspect of mechanical trades. Here's the table of contents from my copy of the book: 1. Safety. 2. The Basic Toolbox. 3. Power Tools-Portable. 4. Power Tools-Stationary. 5. Twist Drills. 6. Mechanical Drawing. 7. Electrical Drawing. 8. Isometric Drawing. 9. Single-Line Isometric Pipe Drawing. 10. Sketching. 11. Field Layout. 12. Machinery Installation. 13. Machine Assembly. 14. Use of the Torque Wrench. 15. Torque Specifications. 16. Measurement. 17. Plain Bearings. 18. Anti-Friction Bearings. 19. Life of Anti-Friction Bearings. 20. Installation of Anti-Friction Bearings. 21. Vibration Measurement. 22. Lubrication. 23. Mechanical Power Transmission. 24. Shafting. 25. Flat Belts. 26. V-Belts. 27. Positive-Drive Belts. 28. Chain Drives. 29. Gear Drives. 30. Shaft Couplings. 31. Screw Threads. 32. Mechanical Fasteners. 33. Gaskets, Packing, and Mechanical Seals. 34. Pumps. 35. Fans. 36. Basic Electricity. 37. AC Motors. 38. Preventive Maintenance of Equipment. 39. Structural Steel. 40. Welding. 41. Rigging. 42. Hand Signals for Cranes and Hoists. 43. Piping and Pipefitting. 44. Steam Traps. 45. Steam Piping. 46. Automatic Sprinkler Systems. 47. Carpentry. 48. Shop Mathematics. 49. Shop Geometry. 50. Shop Trigonometry.
- Audel books have been around forever, but I could never find a revision, at least not of this really well-known book for my toolbox. I had an old copy, but it was really out of date. I'm recommending this new one to all the other guys in the shop!
- this book contains a ton of quick references for alot of things you will use if your in the mechanical trades, or industrial maintenance. some of them are, drawing and print sysmbols, all about belts, chains, gears and couplings, seals, bearings, and pumps, rigging information and techniques, piping andallowances for elbows, couplings, unions ect, sprinkler systems, and a whole lot of other references to other things i cant list here because of time. im in industrial maintenance and i know ill use mine alot. its also very easy to read and understand.

1 comments about Textiles for Residential & Commercial Interiors.
- There is oodles of info in it, however, it is the absolute driest book I've ever had to read. I actually love the majority of my textbooks. As a design student, I expect a book to have nice color photos, beautiful layout and an organization that is more appealing. This book needs help! How about a graphic design professional to work the layout and photos, maybe pay a little extra for some color pages (it looks like it was printed on a copy machine as is) and maybe someone to edit the copy so it is more palatable and less tiring. When I know I need to catch some zzzzz's, I just open this book and try to read a few paragraphs.

1 comments about Cost Analysis and Estimating for Engineering and Management.
- The author of the book goes over the top in derivation in his calculations. It's almost as if he's trying to show off instead of keeping the math simple and relevant. However, considering the other books for this topic, there are no better.

3 comments about Victorian Domestic Architectural Plans and Details: 734 Scale Drawings of Doorways, Windows, Staircases, Moldings, Cornices, and Other Elements.
- This book offers plans for several gorgeous Victorian houses, and as such, is an excellent companion book to some of Dover's other architectural offerings. But as the author notes, the ". . . intention primarily was to make it a work of Architectural details . . ." House framing is laid out here, from sill plate to rafters. Back then they used balloon framing, so it's interesting to compare that to modern practices. But the best part of this book is the wealth of detail on a building's, well, details. You get a drawing showing how virtually every feature of a Victorian house if built, inside and out. You'll see how to frame out porches, doors, windows, cornices, and gables. There are examples of turned work - posts, finials, drops, and balusters - lattice work, roof ventilators, and chimney tops.
My favorite part is the treatment of interiors. Staircases are shown in elevation and in details. There are examples of all types of trim work, from wainscoting to fireplace mantels. Best of all, several rooms are shown in perspective or elevation, and then in cutaway detail. There's another book that provides a better set of plans and details (I'll update this when I find the title) for every room in the house, but this provides a great introduction.
If you own a Victorian house, you should have this book before you even think of tearing into any walls. You'll gain an understanding of what's behind the lathe before you cut out something you shouldn't have. If you're building or renovating and like Victorian details, this will give you a lot of ideas that you can incorporate into your house. Today's houses are better built - stronger, well insulated, with all the modern conveniences - but what they lack is detail. This book shows you why our houses now are so hopelessly plain-Jane compared to the houses build a century ago.
- Good book for excellent drawings with measurements for victorian and related house interior and exterior architectural details. Good for actual homes and dollhouses. recommend
- This book, originally published in 1881, contains floorplans and elevations of several dozen Victorian houses. Some plans are possibly suitable for actual construction. As the accurate title implies there are many drawings of architectural details. All plans are drawn to scale, but have been reduced by 12%. This book is a must-have for fans of Victorian architecture or home builders that are looking for Victorian-style ideas

5 comments about Traditional Mexican Style Exteriors.
- I am a landscape designer in central Florida, and I am always looking for inspiration for specialty projects. The photos in this book are outstanding! The text is well-written and interesting!
- If you are building a Spanish home and we are, then this book will provide you with a wealth of ideas about what to do beyond the 'box of the casa.' Filled with brilliant photographs of terraces, swimming pools, fountains, outdoor rooms, columns, entrances, furnishings, use of paint, etc. you will refer to this book over and over again as you design and continue to decorate your dream home.
- The photography is excellent and the ideas abound. It is a book that's fun to thumb through and colorful. I enjoyed it! It's sister publication is just as good.
- I have bought more than a Dozen Mexican Design Books already. And none can compare to the Traditional Mexican Style Exteriors and its Companion Book Mexican Style Interiors by Donna McMenamin.
It is a wonderful book! You will not need any other book if you are planning on redecorationg your house. But, even if you will not decorate your house, this Book(s) are a worthy read. The Pictures are wonderful. Giving detail to what is really Mexican.
- Every time I re-do a room or make a home decor purchase these days, I'm looking for things to make my house look more Mexican. This book, and its companion volume "Traditional Mexican Style Interiors" are wonderful reference books for anyone looking to copy that style.
If you're just a fan of Mexican style, or have been to Mexico and want to have a way to go back without leaving your easy chair, this book is fun to read and magnificent to look at. Although it emphasizes exteriors (facades, architecture, etc.) there are photos of gardens, courtyards, and plenty of other spaces that you could create on your own property, even on a very modest budget, and without knocking the house down and starting over.

5 comments about The New Ultimate Book of Home Plans: Lowe's Branded (Home Plans).
- My mother-in-law sent me this book, along with several others that were published by the same company. I was really excited and have really enjoyed the books. There are a lot of great ideas and the plans are easy to read. The only complaint that I have is that since they have the same publisher, the three books share many of the same house plans. I would suggest getting one of them that has the most plans, and then if you want more ideas, to get a book from a different publisher.
- We are going to hire an architect and contractor to build a home and bought 3 megabooks of plans from Amazon to get some ideas. This was the worst of the lot though by no means as awful as "the house you build" book. My wife and I just didn't like many of the plans. The organization isn't really too useful as the plans are grouped by style, not size (nobody who is building a 3000sf home wants to parse through 1500sf cottages). The color photos are nice and I gave the book 2 stars because there are helpful hints for construction and design interspersed throughout. Check my other reviews for the home books we recommend.
- The problem I have not got enough bucks.
- We couldn't agree on the type of house we wanted so we spent hours inspecting the hundreds of house plans in this book, mentally taking ideas from one and adding them to others. Having color pictures of the finished product makes it easy to identify those you like. In the end we were able to compromise; I gave up the two-story idea for the more practicle one-story, and we've created a wing for privacy. Rather than buy individual plans we'll take our cut & paste ideas to an architech (someday). If nothing else, browsing through the book initiated a lot of conversation about our lifestyle what's important to us as individuals. Great fun.
- When I bought this book I just thought it was one of those magazine style things printed on cheap paper.Wrong! This book is huge! Colour photos and colour illustrations throughout.Floor plans of all types, almost. Not many homeplans here to suit the lower budgets.
Overall, this book is the best.Great quality, good value and its huge. There are a lot of homes here so you will find something you like. Its worth the money.

5 comments about Oscar Niemeyer: Houses.
- simple the best book of houses....for the modern architect as I am!
Thanks amazon.. sorry now I must to go work!
See you soon
cordiali saluti
Federico
- This has to be one of the worst books I have ever bought. I was expecting inspirational works - what I got was some trashy looking houses.
Maybe they are better when seeing them live, but this book does not inspire me to go seek them out. Out of the numerous houses/flat in the book I could say that only 2 or so were inspirational - the rest trash.
- Detailed images to show Niemeyer's thoughts on living. Choronological spectrum of his works and constant re interpretation of his own architecture.
- I saw some of his work in real, but the pictures of those that I didn't see are awesome! Houses designed by a communist, for the capitalists... But we don't care
- This is a marvelous edition of a particular unknown facet of Oscar Niemeyer (Houses). He is a Brazilian architect that built an international reputation because of public spaces solutions. This book offers a detailed timeline view of private houses projected by him.
