5 comments about The African Grey: An Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet.
- Ms Rach seems to have tried a bit too hard to write a book for youth but seems to think you talk down to them.
A fine try and the book does have a good deal of specific information but the detail is in all the wrong places to be of much interest to me. Better to buy THE AFRICAN GREY PARROT HANDBOOK, or KEEPING AFRICAN GREY PARROTS.
- This is the bestest book I ever readed in my whole life! Yeah, that's the ticket! I have one to sell, please buy it! PLEASE! Once I sell it, I will post my actual thoughts on this wonderful wack job... I mean expert of african greys.
The greatest advice in the entire world. Like, this book opened my eyes and made me think just like the bird does. Yeah, that's it! That's the ticket! I can speak African Grey now, because I read this wonderful book. Did I mention I am selling this book? Oy, chock full of information and history and will make you suicidal ... er I mean an expert!
- This woman is a wack job at best. This book should be titled "The Adventures of my African Grey Sinbad!" The book is based on her bird and what little knowledge she has. You can learn more by spending 30 minutes with the guy at Petco or Petsmart. Want a good book on Parrots? Look up Mattie S. Athan!
She gives tips in her book, then on the next page the tip goes against what she just said on the last page! For instance: Don't buy a galvanized cage for fear of poisoning. Next page tells you to let it play with a nut and bolt. HELLO! Galvanized! One page says they are creatures of routine and let it get one. The next page says don't let it get into routine. Now days anybody can get published. THe book is more about her bird who she loves so much but is nutz. Her bird is crazy, bottom line. If you buy this book, keep it in the bathroom :) Just ... incase.
- The book is well written I can't deny that.. but the author seems too obsessed with her female Grey called Sinbad.. she doesn't even know that Sinbad is an Arabic name for males and not females. The photos indicate that the author is fond of cheap as most of the cages portrayed are offensively so. She even recommends that Birds be allowed to play with Screws and Bolts for toys.
- i like to say thes book is very good book i am sory i can't say more coz i can't sbeke englech

4 comments about The Practical Canary Handbook: A Guide to Breeding & Keeping Canaries.
- I ordered this book after buying a canary to learn about these birds and their care and habits. There is a lot of useful information in this publication. I wish in certain chapters that it would give more detailed information. Overall I would recommend it.
- The Canary Handbook is a good product. Good paper, easy reading and beautifull color pictures. I am fully satisfied with the product. The only thing thats bothering me is that Amazon.Com uses a hugh carton box filled with air-plus-book to mail the product, making overseas shipping/postage extremely expensive.
- This is a good canary book with a great section on the best types of food.
- this is up there with the best of books ive read on the canary,it is very informative very interesting.each night i read this book, it has thought me alot, gave me understanding and peace of mind when im wondering what to do next or why did this or that happen?its in the book.thanks for a good book on such a wonderful little bird.

5 comments about Why Do Parakeets Do That?: Real Answers to the Curious Things Parakeets Do.
- Book provides some useful information in an entertaining, humorous format. Very good for children, and adults with only a minor interest in the behavior of parakeets. Not an in-depth guide, but a lot of interesting information packed into a 15-30 minute read. Highly recommended.
- This book is a total waste of time and money. It tells you nothing more and considerably less than a $2.00 pamphlet like book from any variety store. The author seems to think they are very cute and clever. They are wrong! Don't waste your money on this thing.
- This book has adorable and hilarious illustrations. While the info is true, I would recommend this for beginning budgie owners only. The book was a little smaller than I expected, but all in all, it's a fun book that can help answer questions you may have had for a long time. Happy Reading! :-)
- If you've ever had a bird, you know they can be, well, odd birds! I was in the pet store the other day and saw this book. Got it on a whim because we have two Parakeets. My wife and I sat on our couch with it and went "bird watching" for a while. The book is so right on. Now if I could just get a book called Why Does Your Wife Do That?
- This book is very cute and well written. There's just enough info here, but it doesn't try to tell you every single thing about parakeets, though if you love parakeets you'll get a kick out of the illustrations. I have another parakeet book by this author and that one has more info in it. Anyway, I really liked this book!

2 comments about Raising Game Birds.
- The book was exactly what I needed. I was going to be raising game birds to release into the wild. The book was informative and gave me the details that I needed to get started.
- This book needs to be updated, especially the information on sales and marketing. "Housewives" today probably make up considerably less market than bistros. It also advocates using multiflora rose as a fence, which was popular 20 years ago. Most areas are now trying to eradicate this uncontrollable, nasty weed. There is also little info on domestic ducks. The book does, however, provide some good info and is worth the $12.

5 comments about Lovebirds: Everything About Housing, Care, Nutrition, Breeding, and Diseases : With a Special Chapter, Understanding Lovebirds (A Complete Pet Owner's Manual).
- This book appears to have all info necessary for keeping lovebirds. It was an enjoyable read, an easy read and not boring, the author knew what he was talking about.
- This book is TERRIBLE for the first time lovebird owner. I bought this book a couple years back and ended up not following much of the advice because I found an experienced bird person at an awesome bird store. Thank goodness!
Among the blatant lies in this man's book are:
1. Handle your lovebird with gloves.
NEVER handle a parrot with gloves on. It scares them. If you are afraid of being bitten, don't buy a bird.
2. Saying handfed lovebirds are only friendly to the person who handfed them.
LIE. Handfed birds are very friendly and will easily bond with their human flock.
3. (my favorite) "Children must be told that lovebirds ordinarily can't be carried around the room on a shoulder or finger."
Care to explain why my SINGLE lovebird loves to sit on my shoulder and easily steps up for me?
4. They will never learn to imitate.
5. They must be kept singly.
I can't even begin to argue this one. It's ludicrous.
My recommendation? Don't buy this book!
It will only lead to many unhappy, unhealthy lovebirds. This man should have his right to write taken away.
- As the owner of six new love birds, I found Matthew Vriends LOVEBIRDS A Complete Owner's Manual relatively helpful. I knew little about love birds when I read the book and know a only a little more now. The book did not answer many of my questions, though it raised a few points about love birds I would never have asked. For example, the caption of one photograph says the coloration of the peach-faced lutino lovew bird is sex linked, however, I could not discover which sex was linked. This book is not nearly as comprehensive (or thick) as the title leads one to believe nor is it filled with as much information as other books in the `Barrons' series on parrots including the Senegal and African Grey, however the book is filled with lovely photographs and a number of illustrative drawings.
LOVEBIRDS includes text and maps describing the origins of various types of birds in the family. Vriends apparently owns love birds which he maintains in an outdoor aviary. He includes a good deal of information about keeping love birds in outdoor aviaries, so some of his information such as dealing with frozen toes and vermin that attack birds living aviaries (ticks, rats, mice, etc.) as well as raising love bird babies, may be less than useful for folks like me who keep birds indoors and want to understand "beak fighting" know in advance that clipping their little wings may make it difficult for them to move around an aviary. Although these cute little guys are accused by some of being less than loving, my short experience has shown me that plenty of seed cups and members of the opposite sex alleviates some of the rivalry.
- Cute pictures and thats all. Bad info...says you shouldn't have a single lovebird! Thats ubsurd. I have one sitting on my shoulder right now and shes definately happy. It is true you have to spend a lot of time with a single lovie but I know its possible!!
- Faith, our Peach-faced Lovebird thanx the author, Matthew Vriends
many times over for writing this book. Small in size, easy on the pocketbook, yet filled with a wealth of wisdom about raising & caring for these precious creatures of God. From hand feeding to housing, playing to protecting, care and concerns, how to, don't do, in simple language, "Lovebirds" is a winner! The information on illness, disease,& what to do, was invaluable. In fact, we were able to proceed in Faith's best health interest before the Vet's visit. Buy it, highlight, read, & reread this wonderful owner's companion.

2 comments about Extraordinary Pheasants.
- I am a fly tyer and fly fisherman and I picked up this book to learn more about pheasants. This book has many fine photos which helps in my fly tying activities.
- Extraordinary Pheasants by professional photographer Stephen Green-Armytage is a splendid photographic study of pheasants from peacocks to game hens, as well as an incredible variety of other species. The superbly presented, closely detailed, impressive, full-color images of these majestic birds are the highlight of the book. All enhanced with an informative introduction, short, "reader friendly", descriptive comments concerning each pheasant species helping to round out this vibrant avian celebration. Extraordinary Pheasants is very highly recommended for bird fanciers and a welcome addition to personal, school, and community library "Pets & Wildlife" reference collections.

5 comments about Parakeets (Complete Pet Owner's Manual).
- I had thought that I knew a lot about the care and feeding of parakeets, this book showed me much more.
- Some of the information is great, but it still left me with questions. So the title "A Complete Pet Owner's Manual" is misleading.
It does have good information on diet and health and exercise.
But it seems like an overview. But I was looking for more than an overview. The title should be "Parakeets, an overview for the new owner" More details please!
- I LOVE this BOOK! It is quite informative. I do wish to obtain additional books on parakeets.
I wish these books had been around when I was growing up! i LOVE these animals. Their so cretive and unique in their own little ways thought they really are n ot small at all!
Thanak you.
- Authored by Annette Wolter, this manual on parakeets was published in 1999. There are 87 pages. Eight chapters are contained. Numerous color photos and black-and-white drawings are provided. Also, an index is included. The anecdotes the author supplies are informative. Examples of topics covered are tips on purchasing, bathing, care, toys, diet, health, breeding, cages, taming, teaching the parakeet how to talk, intelligence, and behavior. I find the chapter focusing on behavior to be instructive and fascinating. In addition, two tables are displayed; one deals with dangers to the parakeet, while the other deals with health problems. The color photos of the parakeets are pleasing. As for the black-and-white drawings, they are impressive and educational. I recommend this manual.
- Unfortunately, Barron's has a tendency to publish same-subject books in both this series and in their top-of-the-line "Handbook" series, and the topic of Parakeets is no exception. They have, in fact, printed two books on Parakeets in this series (one about Budgies, which are the same species) and a Parakeet Handbook (which is co-authored by both of the writers involved in this series' books).
Annette Wolter's style is one that is easy-to-read, but it is still quite informative. Had I not read "The Parakeet Handbook" first, I would have learned much from this book. However, as it is reasonably priced, well-written and informative, I can recommend it with few reservations.

2 comments about A Guide to a Naturally Healthy Bird: Nutrition, Feeding, and Natural Healing Methods for Parrots.
- No human can live on bread and water alone. Birds have similar dietary needs, and this book tells you how you can get optimum bird health using everyday materials from your kitchen. In this book you'll find nutrition info, as well as medicinal info and how common foods can prevent illness and give your bird a happy, healthy life.
This book will be a great present for your companion bird as well as you.
- Until a few years ago, all bird foods were developed off the poultry production model -- that is, made for birds who didn't live more than a few months and weren't expected to have any quality of life. If there are birds in your life and you love them, get this book and take it to heart.

3 comments about Bantams (Pet Owners Manuals).
- I wanted to learn more about Bantam Chickens as I was interested in keeping them as pets in my backyard. Although the writer gives quite a bit of information, the info given was very discouraging and I gave up the idea after reading the book. Months later I found a website that gave a more down-to-earth approach that inspired me to try keeping Bantams as pets. Also, as with many other books on animals, the writer seems to fall back on the many diseases a chicken could possibly contract as a way to fill pages. If you wrote a book about Humans, you could imagine how many pages could be devoted to disease, rather than more interesting aspects of Humans or their behavior. I'm sorry I bought this book.
- Frankly, I didn't think this book was worth the money. There is quite a bit of misinformation in the book, and since it was originally released in Europe, the pictures of the chickens in it are identified as they would be in Europe which is pretty meaningless to folks in America. Folks here who would be looking to purchase bantam chickens using the names in this book wouldn't be able to find them, and the book does not give the equivalent American name.
On the other hand, the photography is magnificent! If you just want a book with really nice pictures of bantam chickens, this one is really great. However, the rest of the book leaves a lot to be desired.
- I thought that this was a very good introduction to keeping chickens of all sizes, and is written in nice clear terms. The book is well-illustrated, and gives a 'lowdown' on many breeds of bantam, along with very helpful advice on housing and care of your flock. I particularly liked the way the author tries to give an insight on behaviour, and how chickens 'tick'. I'm very pleased I bought this book!
