5 comments about Cockatoos Complete Owner's Manual.
- This was just the book I was looking for. I am contemplating adding a Cockatoo to my family, (I already have two Macaws)....and this book was very informative and gave me alot to consider before adding one to my family.
- I have a goffin cockatoo and I thought this book was great. Very easy to read, good advise, worth the money.
- This is a great book if you need a quick summary and synopsis about cockatoo ownership. In my case it helped me to see that while I am an experienced bird owner, a cockatoo is not an appropriate pet for me at this time in my life.
- A great introduction to cockatoos and how to care for them, and it's honest about the challenges as well as the benefits of sharing your life with one of these guys. It has up-to-date information on how to house them, feed them, and keep them busy, and a very helpful section of brief descriptions of each spieces, which lets you compare the sizes, care, and temperaments--read before you choose a 'too! There's lots more to know, but this is a good place to start.
- This book although fairly short is very informative. Weither your a first time cockatoo owner or have owned them for years this book is for everyone. It goes into detail of complete care for these birds, and mainly anything you need to know about them is there. I enjoyed it, and think any bird lover and cockatoo owner would as well.

5 comments about Parrotlet Handbook, The (Barron's Pet Handbooks).
- A mi parecer contiene informacion muy util para novatos como yo. Sobre todo es que no hay casi informacion sobre los Forpus en la red. Hay una seccion sobre otras especies que no es muy logica a mi parecer en este libro, pero en linea general me ha gustado.
Very good information for nobels like me. What i did not understand, is why the litle information about other parrots. But in general a good book
- A better title for this book might have been "The Small Parrot Handbook". I thought I was getting an in depth handbook on parrotlet care and breeding, but what I got was a book that deals in generalities of many different birds. Forget buying this book. You will learn much more from surfing the web. A total waste of money. Wait! I have just discovered that if you carefully remove the pages, they will fit perfectly 3 wide by 3 deep in the bottom of my bird cage. Maybe I should give another star...
- If you are looking for information on the care of pet parrotlets, take a pass on this one. There are few pages devoted to that topic, and lots and lots about the history of the breed, and lots and lots about small parrots that are not parrotlets.
- Because I keep many birds, I've read many books on the topic by Matthew Vriends. Vriends raises several kinds of tropical birds, visits their natural habitats, is involved in the preservation of wild birds and their habitats, and writes extensively on these topics. He is also a PhD (Dutch born biologist and ornithologist). I bought THE PARROTLET HANDBOOK in spite of the fact one reviewer said there was not much of interest about Parrotlets in this book, mainly because I have read so many of Vriends other books on other birds and found them helpful.
THE PARROTLET BOOK is very interesting, but it is also geared to the breeder of this type of bird. As the owner of two brother Parrotlets, I don't foresee joining the breeder group any time soon, even though Vriends makes a compelling case for becoming a breeder of Parrotlets who are under threat from the deforestation of the Amazon jungle.
In spite of the book's bias - which I truly appreciate, it does include many helpful tips and a good deal of information about the various types of Parrotlets who are companions of people like me. For one thing the book helps one understand the origins the little birds whose ancestors come from South America and who seem be thought of by some as the little brother of the larger Macaw.
My Parrotlet brothers have been hand raised from the egg stage and they are Soooo sweet. However, I am told the Parrotlet can administer a nasty bite should he be "wild" or displeased. My birds perch on my finger (two at a time) and are a lot less messy than my Cockatiels and Love Birds. Maintenance-wise, keeping Parrotlets is a bit like keeping Canaries. However, they are as playful as my Senegal parrot.
I found a really great article on Parrotlets entitled "True Confession-Parrotlet owners bring down the house with tales of pin-sized adventures" in the January 2004 issue of Bird Talk Magazine (if you keep birds or are thinking of doing so, subscribe to this magazine). I recommend both Vriends book and Bird-Talk magazine for the serious bird owner.
- I bought this book hoping to find out more about parrotlet care, training and behavior. Instead, it reads like a mini0encyclopedia of all small parrots. Most of the parrots listed in this book are not even seen in pet stores. The author should SERIOUSLY think about revising this book OR changing the title.

5 comments about Lovebird Handbook, The (Barron's Pet Handbooks).
- I purchased a Lovebird with limited knowledge of its care. Vera Appleyard gives extensive information about the care and feeding of Lovebirds in the book, LOVEBIRD HANDBOOK.
- The book arrived quicker than I expected. It is my bible of raising love birds. Very informative and a must have for love bird fanatics..
- This is the 6th book I've read about lovebirds, and my favorite one. It has alot of history on the birds, and also talks about training them, how to handle them when they first come home, diseases, and how to feed them and even a chapter on breeding. Very complete, and has so many pictures that it makes it hard not to read. I recommend it!
- The book has some basic review of lovebirds but fills the rest of the book with explanations of genetics and the mutations and pictures of all the lovebird mutations. It wasn't particularly what I was looking for. I wanted to know their habits, personalities, etc. as I was not looking to breed lovebirds.
- Excellent communication, fast postage.
The book I received has all the information I would ever hope to need.

5 comments about The Parrot Who Owns Me: The Story of a Relationship.
- I read this book 5 years ago and I often think of it, possibly because I share my house and woodwork with a very special parrot that I adore, too.
Beautifully written and enlightening and charming at the same time, it will tempt you to run out and buy a parrot. Don't. Rescue a neglected one instead.
- One of the BEST parrot story books I have ever read. Kept my interest, and provided both laughter and a few tears. I have an African Grey and a Caique, so this "relationship" story really touched my heart. I truly have a relationship with my two parrots, so it was wonderful to read of another's experience. This book would also be great for someone who is new to owning a parrot.
- Very informative but easy to read. Not so dry and scientific that it will turn you off. Who knew parrots were so smart and had such specific personalities. You will fall in love with Tiko but, as the author mentions, beware taking on the ownership of such a demanding bird. I have a friend who owns a parrot and knows a great deal about them and she says the book explains so much to her about her little 'green feathered husband' as she calls him.
- This woman is misleading thousands of readers as to what's acceptable in terms of rearing a parrot. She very often endangers her bird, everything from feeding it a poor diet to letting it chew on furniture (most have stains and sealants that can be toxic). I also see a lot of people voting these bad reviews down, which is fine, but realize that just because she "loved" her bird doesn't mean she did the right things for him. She sure left her other parrots in a rut fast enough.
- I purchased this book several years ago for my bird club. Everyone who has read it adores it. Being bird owners and lovers we can understand what this person has gone through with her beloved parrot. We know that many parrots empathize with their caretakers. We also know that birds will most likely bond with one person, and heaven help the other person if they get in the middle.
I don't know of one person who read this book that didn't get teary eyed when she was sick in bed and the parrot groomed her hair on the pillow. It's a close feeling when your bird sits on your shoulder and preens itself and you at the same time.
I need to read this book again....and again. It's lovely...get one and read it. You'll enjoy it.

5 comments about Eclectus Parrots.
- This book is very informative and covers most aspects of Eclectus Behavior and Care. I would definitely recommend this book to other purchasers.
- I bought this book before getting my eclectus parrot and I found it to cover everything I can think of I could possibly want to know. Shows pictures of Eclectuses displaying different body languages and their explanations. Covers diets, differences between sub-species,covering a cage or not to cover and much more. Lots of pictures too.
- Very using useful guide to help you take care of your eclectus bird. Nice pictures. Easy read. Sound advices.
- This is a concise and helpful guide for all those who reside with an Eclectus parrot or hope to do so soon. Eclectus are unique in important ways other than being sexually dimorphic (males and females look different). They also do not do well on seed or pellet diets fed to many parrots. The book covers care of your bird, how to provide necessary intellectual stimulation with safe toys, information about common health problems and lots of other information critical to the well-being of your feathered friend.
- I just received my copy of the book from the mail. My first impression was that it was quite thin. I was hoping for more information about breeding and aviary design, but the sections dealing with those topics were quite short. I was hoping to find a section wherein hybrids were thoroughly discussed and if a hybrid bird would have any deformities later on or if they would lead to infertile offspring.
Also, I was hoping to find more detailed analysis, and photographic documentation (probably pictures of different races perching side by side for comparison) of the different races.
Anyway, except for the above-mentioned items, I found the book quite useful specially for beginners like myself.

1 comments about Parakeets For Dummies (For Dummies (Pets)).
- This book starts off with one of my pet peeves - giving the name American Parakeet to the sweet little Australian Budgie or Budgerigar. They are not American birds at all - although they certainly are one of many different parakeets.
The author, Nikki Moustaki is very knowlegable about these wonderful birds. She gives excellent advice on deciding if a budgie is right for your home.
Throughout the book, markings in the margins indicate interesting and helpful tips, warnings and reminders.
The chapter "Polly Want a Cracker?" has excellent advice on feeding your budgie. Of course variety is essential and Nikki gives a great list of foods to provide interest and variety.
The chapter "Come Here Often?" provides great information to help you understand common budgie behaviours, including some problem behaviours. The author also provides great taming and training advice here.
It is obvious while reading this book that Nikki Moustaki loves these little birds. She talks about her own Parakeets/Budgies as examples, telling us what they enjoy. This is a great book for beginners and even experienced budgie owners may find information that they didn't know before.

2 comments about Taming and Training Your First Budgerigar.
- Greetings...here's a real review for Risa Tetler's Taming and Training Your First Budgerigar. (also known to Americans as the Parakeet.) Her simple and easy-to-understand training method for these smart and crafty little birdies is very practical and can be followed by anyone with a desire to learn more about their behavior, and how we as pet owners should best interact with them. At this writing, I have 4 parakeets and I use this book along with other bird books, but I think I like Ms. Tetler's training method best. This book is priced low enough that it should be easily available to any parakeet/budgerigar owner, of any age. Her other books are also very helpful, especially the African Grey book if you are interested. Remember, though that every parakeet is different in temperment, and your success in training them will depend on your degree of patience as well as your pet's tolerance level for being handled and played with. Good Luck to all bird owners out there!
- i love this boo

5 comments about For the Love of Greys.
- This is a must have book for all African Grey owners. It is well written, and full of pertinent information regarding the African Grey.
I have read three other books on the subject, but none was as informative as this book. This book does not just gloss over various topics, but rather goes in depth on each matter explaing the why and why nots.
I highly recommend this book. I will keep this book at arms length all through my Grey's life.
- This book answers every possible question about african greys. The only thing is that there are no color pics, it's all black and white. But the info is excellent.
- This is a very informative book reagarding African Greys and their behavior and our interaction with them. VERY helpful! It had more information regarding breeding and hand feeding than I needed but the games and the food suggestions and just general information regarding greys was very helpful! GREY-T author!
- Bobbi's book is the bible of parrot care in my home! I believe it has made me a better parrot owner. A MUST HAVE for new African Grey owners!
- A must have for anyone owning or thinking of owning an African Grey parrot.

5 comments about Guide to the Quaker Parrot.
- This has been the Bible of parrot information! Extremely helpful and useful information; concise and interesting reading.
- I found this book helpfull and informative. It better helped me to understand some of the behaviours i had already noticed in my quaker.
- I liked this book and it has a lot of information in it about the Quaker. The only thing that I wasn't happy with was the fact that I felt like the book deals too much with baby Quakers. The Quaker that I bought was already 7 months old and had already gone through many of the stages of learning that are talked about in the book. However, if you are bringing home a baby Quaker or just have general care questions about the Quaker, then this book is for you.
- What a great resource -- huge, vass information on Quakers in particular -- just what is needed for those researching a soon to be Quaker parent. Gives great information on rehabilitation for those of you who are considering a rescue. Thank you. Definetely worth the money!!!
- The book overall is a great book, however, there really is no food guidance on what you should feed your Quacker. As a new parent to an adult quacker I really needed something that gives more detail in food does and don'ts.
It did help explain some of the behavioral issues and how to solve them that we noticed in our Quacker.
Overall, I would recommend this book, but if you are looking for a book on feeding, you may want to buy an additional book. This book is very helpful in other areas!

2 comments about Breaking Bad Habits in Parrots: How Responsible and Sympathetic Parrot Care Can Prevent or Remedy Problem Behaviors.
- Uses insights on parrots' lives in the wild to help parrots in captivity. Many photos of beautiful parrots.
- Greg Glendell knows his stuff, as evidenced by this and all of his other writings. Just do a google search on this author and you will be amazed to find all of the most sensical remedies to problems that stem from having a wing clipped bird in captivity. His advice seems so simple but is deep seeded in ethological and ornithological principles. He is the UK's only full-time pet parrot behaviourist and the world would greatly benefit from several of his clones. If you are experiencing challenges with your companion parrot, buy this book and explore Mr. Glendell's website for more information. I can't sing his praises any louder!
