1 comments about Training Birds of Prey.
- Much the same as her previous " Falconry Care, Captive breeding and Conservation" - but was well worth doing as is underlines serious points and issues. On the whole a very good book with excellent information and photography. The author does as with the last book seem to have a very high opinion of herself and holds herself up as THE FALCONER in Britain today.
I was concerned that the author also seems to put the notion across that her Falconry Centre is the only good one in the country and that everyone else is just either playing at it or only in it to make money - as if she isn't what with at least two books, courses, displays etc... I do believe that she holds the welfare of the birds as her highest priority, but this can only be maintained with adequate finance as is the situation with everyone else. Note : Cover picture - Buzzard only held by one Jess 2nd page in - one of the jesses is not secured properly to the swivel, preventing the swivel from working properly.. Pages 78,79 and 81, these are surely unhelpful pictures to put on public view - a falcon shying away and hanging from the fist. The anti-hunting lobby would love this.

2 comments about The Guide to Owning a Parakeet (Budgie).
- About 75% of the information in this book is about breeding budgies in avaries or for competitions. there was little information that was specifically for pet owners, and some of the information was incorrect (for instance, it recommends grit and seeds instead of pellets). however, the writers attitude toward pet birds was refreshing: he really stresses paying plenty of attention to them and preserving their 'natural' bird behavior. however, someone who cares enough about their pet to buy a book about them already knows that.
- This book has been very helpful. John Bales has very concisely informed the reader all about choosing, breeding, and raising parakeets. Unfortunately, the budgie that I had originally bought this book for died the day I received the book. However, it was an immediate help as it taught me to diagnose the problem with my bird and what I could do, if anything, to avoid it happening again. Also, it has been a big help in my selecting a new budgie.

5 comments about Amazing Birds: A Treasury of Facts and Trivia about the Avian World.
- This is an informative and beautiful book, full of fascinating facts about birds and so visually appealing that it is appropriate for a coffee table. Clearly, the goal is to be accessible without sacrificing good science. I find myself going back to it every time I see a bird doing something interesting in my yard.
- I found the book to be fasinating and very informative. I find myself referring to "Amazing Birds" when I see a bird I do not recognize or when I am adding another bird feeder or bird house to my property. Did you know that bird houses should face a certain direction? The placement of the colorful pictures throughout this book is unique. Keep the book nearby as you will refer to it often.
- I have always been a big fan of Barron's books (publishers of the popular Eyewitness series) and Amazing Birds does not disappoint! The colorful, clear photographs and drawings are a big part of the book's appeal and the fun, interesting factoids have you learning something new on every page. Dr. Lederer has come up with a truly unique format for sharing his interest and fascination with the avian world with everyone, child to adult. This book is the perfect gift for any bird or nature lover, even those who may already have a library of birding books.
- I am truly impressed with the wealth of information given in the book. The photos are captivating and the format is perfect for all bird enthusiasts-from novice to expert.
I myself have purchased over 6 books to give as gifts to my friends. We all,at some point, take time to wonder about the wild life in our own backyard. This book is a handy, fun and fact filled reference that I know they will enjoy ! Bonnie from Illinois
- The all new book amazing birds is wonderful for young bird lovers. I am 8
years old and I love to bring it around so I can read a book if I am bored. It has got so much good and facinating information you won't want to stop reading it. I love it and I look at it every day. Amazing Birds is THE BEST!

3 comments about Why Does My Parrot . . . ? (Why Does My . . . ? series).
- To the person who wrote the review stating about the Back remedies I say that homeopatic remedies can be a valid alternative medical treatment in some cases, (it is even in people many times) and Rosemary Low states that one should be "reffered to a homeopatic vet", and not just administer different essences as one please to a sick parrot. Closing this parenthesis I think this book is an excellent reading for new parrot owners who want to learn the most on how to keep their new friend happy and healthy, for old owners who want to understand some behavioural motivation of their parrot, and lastly for breeders who sell hand fed babies and should therefore understand parrot education and much more (hopefully to the advantage of their potential buyers).
- This book does a great disservice to pet owners by its endorsement and recommendation of unproven alternative treatments.
"Bach" remedies contain alchohol and have never been tested or proven effective as treatment for any medical or behavioral problems by any recognized scientific study.
- This is a great book with excellent basic information and advice written for the PET parrot owners. The format is especially helpful for finding the appropriate information quickly. I found the chapter on different species profiles to be the least interesting; It could have been omitted. Still, I consider this book a "must" for all first-time pet parrot owners and those who do not have a lot of time to research and read on parrot behavior.
