2 comments about Taming and Training Lovebirds.
- This book is titled taming and training lovebirds, yet only 6 of the 92 pages are dedicated to this topic! If I wanted a book on basic care, basic information or anything other than taming and training this may have been an informative book but since I have already read 15 other books (not exagerating) on those topics, this book was useless! Regardless of reading level this book does not provide what it promises and I highly do not recommend this book.
- The book had a lot of diferent chapters and beatiful pictures in it.It told what kind of fruit lovebirds can eat.It told about what kind of toys were dangerous to lovebirds and about nesting boxes. This is the best lovebird book I ever read.

2 comments about Raising Game Birds: Storey Country Wisdom Bulletin A-93 (Garden Way Publishing's Country Wisdom Bulletins, Raising Animals Series, No a-93).
- The Storey guides are the best and informative publications I have bought. Having bought expensive books that said the same thing as the Raising Game Birds: Storey Country Wisdom Bulletin A-93 (Garden Way Publishing's Country Wisdom Bulletins, Raising Animals Series, No a-93)
by Mavis Harper does I highly recommend this publication first and foremost. The information is easy to read, illustrations etc easy to follow. Save money as well by putting the money you would have put toward an expensive book on the subject, toward other game bird needs.
Have poultry and was interested in raising some quail and pheasant and made the mistake of buying a couple expensive books on the subject that I quickly returned. Then someone suggested Raising Game Birds: Storey Country Wisdom Bulletin A-93 (Garden Way Publishing's Country Wisdom Bulletins, Raising Animals Series, No a-93)by Mavis Harper so I bought it and was/am so impressed with the information, advise etc shared. All the information one needs.
- Very thin pamphlet type book. Way too general in its information. Should be given away for free instead of having to pay for it..... Use the money you would have spent on buying this book/pamphlet and apply it to getting a good book on raising game birds.........

2 comments about Handling and Nursing the Game Cock (History of Cockfighting Series) (History of Cockfighting Series).
- We have here an invaluable resource for the care of game cocks. It offers a lot of that advice that you are otherwise only likely to get from the old timers in the sport. The concerns raised by other reviewers (whom I bet haven't even READ this book!) that the sale of this book constitutes some kind of cruelty are misplaced. Hundreds of cookbooks exist wherein ingredients can only be got through the slaughter of chickens. Does that constitute condoning animal cruelty as well? At least game cocks die honorably and in accordance with their nature, in stead of being mechanically "turned off" in a factory. If they were people, game cocks would go to Valhalla.
- I thought you might be interested in this Humane Society US campaign to stop Amazon.com's sales of illegal animal fighting materials. Amazon
sells both cockfighting magazines and bloody, graphic
dogfighting DVDs. The company is so determined to continue
selling these materials that it filed a motion against The HSUS
in federal court, essentially asking that federal and state laws
to protect animals be gutted to accommodate Amazon's sales of
animal fighting paraphernalia!
Please ask Amazon to remove these materials from its website.

2 comments about The Proper Care of Cockatoos.
- Layout is good but too many photos and not enough text. This is a very basic guide and left me hungry for more which I am having trouble finding. Can you believe I have found more indepth information on Tarantulas than I can find for Cockatoos?
- Gave a good background on cockatoos for the new owner

4 comments about Parrots.
- I like this book. It help me to know more about parrot.
- PARROTS by Mattie Sue Athan is a good short and concise manual to read if you don't have time to read any of the other excellent books by Athan and other bird experts (Matthew Vriends, Sally Blanchard). She covers all the basics about parrots - a family that includes everything from Budgies to Hyacinth Macaws. Every section includes a `checklist' so if you are really in a hurry, you can skip over fully reading the chapters that cover purchasing, care, feeding, and housing.
Quite frankly, I consider parrots or any pet for that matter such a worth while investment, I have read everything I can and talked to many experts to ensure the best possible outcome with my parrots. I don't have much use for this book, preferring instead Athan's more comprehensive book GUIDE TO COMPANION PARROT BEHAVIOR. However, if you have not yet made a parrot purchase and wish to become more informed before you do so, or, if you are in a hurry, or have limited time for reading, this might be the book to throw in your luggage or carry in your brief case. Just remember, having an animal companion is something like raising children or a good garden - you get out of it what you put into it. If you can't take the time to become informed now, how will you manage later?
- Author and parrot expert Mattie Sue Athan has hit another home run with her newest book "Parrots." This handy reference book is described as "a complete pet owners manual," and the description certainly describes this book to a tee.
This is a great book for people who are just starting out with a new pet parrot, and it's a wonderful primer for anyone who is even considering the ownership of one of these complex, but rewarding birds. It's also a great reference book for people who consider themselves expert parrot owners. The author leads the reader through every phase of parrot ownership - from selection, purchase, care, training, housing, and feeding of these lovely animals. She imparts parrot care wisdom with clarity, intelligence, and humor. The book is attractive, well-organized, and packed with interesting sidebars and illustrations. The price is marvelously inexpensive for the amount of valuable information that is shared. It's the sort of book that I wish had been available years ago, when I first started my life-long relationship with pet parrots. The invaluable information in this book would have saved me hours of concern and confusion. The book is a blessing and an indespensible part of any parrot owner's bookshelf. If you can buy only one book on parrots, this is the one! But be warned: Mattie Sue Athan's parrot books are like the famous potato chips - you cannot stop at just one!
- This is an absolute must for everyone considering purchasing a parrot for a companion. It offers practical information about the reality of owning a parrot and the responsibilities that go along with that relationship. Mattie Sue Athan's recommendations and criteria for selecting a breeder/dealer is sound and will make a number of potential parrot owners rethink their selected source. Even those who already own parrots will benefit from this newest project. Definetly a book for every parrot owner's library.

5 comments about The Lovebird: An Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet.
- The title says it all. One can do better w/ Appleyard's book.
- A visit to my local library yielded many books about breeding lovebirds, with little focus on the pet owner who wished to keep a single lovebird just as a pet. This book was a lifesaver! It was thorough, as well as fun and simple to read. I am buying the Cockatiel book in the same series for a friend who owns one because this book impressed me so much!
- If you're getting a lovebird or 2 for a pet this is a great book. It goes over feeding, health, and all the other things a bird would need. It doesnt talk about breeding though. It goes over the different species which is nice.. The reason I gave it 4 stars was because it didn't talk about breeding. But as a pet book, it should be 5 starts :)
- Do not purchase a Lovebird until you read this book! This book is filled with important information. There is so much that I would have been completely ignorant to if I had not purchased this book. It helped my find the right cage, told me about dangerous toys, first aid, different species, etc. This book contains everything, if you only want to buy one book on lovebirds, make it this one. This book talks about things you would never think of, it is truly a wonderful and informative book. You can tell that the author loves lovebirds, and cares for their well-being. I am so impressed with this book, that if I decide to get another bird one day, I will turn to the same collection. I am looking forward to the arrival of my first baby lovebird, and because of this book, I feel confident and at ease that I can provide a safe and loving home for my bird.
- I was extremely nervous interacting with my new lovebird. Reading this book was easy and highly enjoyable, it was almost like talking with an old friend. I'm much more aware of the needs of my lovebird and have a much more enjoyable time.

5 comments about The Cat Fanciers' Association Complete Cat Book.
- Great book to show the overview of the cat world. Gives the history, talks about shows, points, and breeds of cats. If you are getting into showing cats this books is for you.
- My family consists of 4 members which includes our baby girl, a 3 and a half year old persian. I have been on a hunt for reading material that best describes the feline nature, behavior, needs and healthcare and I have finally found that in this book. After reading other cat care books I feel this one has a lot of fact not opinion. I would highly recommend this book whether you have a pedigree cat or not.
- a very informative book for the cat lover, with bright color pictures, discriptions of temperment , hair color of each cat. a very good book to have on hand.
- The book is excellent and a good source for reference regarding breeds. I also found the health information section quite informative, and would recommend it to anyone with any kind of cat.
- After a disasterous false start with the "Encyclopedia", which was simply an outdated, mediocre European book with the CFA logo sloppily applied to it, the Cat Fanciers' Association's ambitious project to present the world of pedigreed cats to the public is finally here. The sections on the different cat breeds are written by actual experts on the breeds: CFA breed council secretaries. The section on feline health, written by one of the world's foremost "cat breeder vets", Dr. Susan Little, makes this book an indispensible part of any cat lover's library. With so much dated feline health information currently on bookshelves, it is refreshing to see this section reflect the cutting edge of feline medicine. Those with cats of less prestigious heritage than the National Award Winning pedigreed cats pictured in full-color generously throughout the book will find this volume valuable for the section on feline health alone.
Congratulations, CFA, on a job well done!

3 comments about The Professional's Book of Lovebirds (Professionals Book).
- THE PROFESSIONAL' S BOOK OF LOVEBIRDS by John Coborn covers their natural history, cages and aviaries, nutrition-health and hygiene-breeding Lovebirds and other topics. Coburn provides suggestions for aviaries and cages and recommends aviaries because Lovebirds are ornamental birds, not necessarily good companion animals (although I have a very loveable Peach-faced (Agaponis roseicollis) Lovebird hand raised from a young chick).
Coburn's book includes over 180 color photographs and large type, so it is certainly visually appealing and relatively easy to read, although perhaps a bit dated (the suggested reading section won't include anything issued after 1991). For a surfeit of information about genetics and typology, Dr. D'Angieri's ATLAS on Lovebirds can't be beat, but for more comprehensive albeit easier to access and handle smaller book, you may want to buy Anne Appleyard's THE LOVEBIRD HANDBOOK published in 2001.
- This book does not at all explain what to feed your birds. breeding, nesting, health care it should be called a professionals point of vew good pictures but dont fully expain mutation coloring. Was very dissipointed in this book TITLE is very mis leading if you want a book with pictures of lovebirds with out full discription of them it is ok but other wise it is totaly useless
- It is a book with very potential, in spite of presenting some appearances. It presents images of a lot of quality and quite beautiful. It could go beyond, and to show more new mutations, as the ones that exists here in Portugal.
