1 comments about The Proper Care of Budgies.
- The PROPER CARE OF BUDGIES is a thick (250+pp), hardcover book that covers all the basics of pet care and a good deal about breeding parakeets or Budgerigars. In a section on cages and aviaries, Author Dennis Kelsey Wood has included many designs for outdoor aviaries and nest boxes, as well as commercial cages. He covers breeding considerations and genetics in another section. This is not the best book to give your child for reading about his new pet Budgie, although it does include numerous photographs of featherless baby chicks that may be of interest to the curious child.
Most of the photographs are interesting and most of the text reflects good common sense. For example, how many folks need to be told to "make sure your cage is large enough to accommodate your Budgies favorite toys"? On the other hand, most of us will never "show" our Budgies at an exhibition either. Two short chapters in the back of the book "The Pet Budgerigar" and "Maintaining Health" cover what most of us want to know. If your keeping Budgies as pets, you will do better to buy The Owner's Guide to THE BUDGIE, by Julie Rach.

3 comments about The Simple Guide to Bird Care & Training (Simple Guide to...).
- I absolutely love this book. I work with parrots on a full time basis in an all-bird store. This book is right on target for beginnner bird owners. What I like about it is that it is comprehensive. It breaks down the different types of birds and discusses their personality traits, size, life span, talking ability (not a definite in any bird, but always a plus, and every bird is different), whether a bird is ok for an apartment or a house, and of course, everything from health and grooming to training. I have not found a book yet that does as much comparing between the species and makes it easy for beginner birders. A must have for all beginners!!!
- This book is an up to date book providing a general overview of bird care and training. This book is good for the beginner who is considering a bird or has just acquired their first bird. It is reasonably priced and packed with lots of information. You'll need to move on to more specialized books about bird care and training after reading this, but this book is an excellent start!
- This is a great book. It has easy to read and understand information on the most popular pet birds. There are 19 species covered individually. It gives step by step advice on how to set up and mantain a happy home for you and your bird. It also contains color photographs on almost every page.

5 comments about The Complete Book of Cockatiels.
- What a fantastic book! I have read it from cover to cover, and it is my primary resource book. From a discussion of diet, to the different kinds of cockatiels to different behaviors and what they mean as well as some advice on breeding -- wow!
If you have not bought a book about Cockatiels, or even if you have, this book *must* be added to your library.
- But Diane Grindol is a genius!!! Her book cockatiels for dummies is excellent, informational, and entertaining. I'm sure this is too. I recommend buying both books before getting your cockatiel! If you already have one/some, get these books anyway.

- I just bought this book because I just bought a cockatiel. I
have had cockatiels when I was younger & needed a refresher course. This book has alot of information on nutrition, training, colorings of cockatiels etc. All the information you'll ever need!
- I am an avian health care advisor and author who offers assistance to those who are thinking about acquiring a bird, or to those are experiencing diffculties with bird/s they already have. My experience with birds and other animals stems back to when I was just a very little girl, but I have foucsed primarily on parrots for the past 11 years.
Nearly two years ago when I was presented with the opportunity to rescue a Cockatiel, and since I lack in experience when it comes to this species, I queried my avian list serv buddies about a good book on Tiels. The response was overwhelmingly that I should get a copy of The Complete Book of Cockatiels by Diane Grindol. I might add that several of those who recommended this book to me have bred Tiels for over 20 years, and although some no longer breed, they own Tiels. I got a copy right away, and I am so glad I did. This is an excellant book for many reasons... Diane does cover all the topics necessary for someone who is interested in getting a Cockatiel eg. requirementes of the species, and the topics a beginner would find necessary eg. ongoing care, emergencies, etc. but she also includes information that experienced Tiel folks would find very interesting eg. visual sexing and genetics. The cover is so beautiful, and is one of a kind as far as I am concerned...it is just beautiful. The pictures inside are not only beautiful but informative as well. Generally, when I need info. on a particular species, I will go and buy all the books I can find about it, but after reading Diane's book, I didn't do that!
- This book is a wonderful overview of Cockatiels. It covers all the basics: Feeding, behavior, health, basic genetic info, etc. It also has wonderful pictures. I would recommend this book to not only people with cockatiels, but to owners of other parrots, too. Great book!

2 comments about Birds Off the Perch: Therapy and Training for Your Pet Bird.
- I agree with the other reviewer, that this book provides excellent advice on how to live with a companion bird, and that the book is well written. The authors are clearly well knowledged and review all facets of the different types of birds, which should be thoroughly reviewed before you purchase: playfulness, loudness, availability, size, care requirements, and whether the types are recommended for experienced or for beginners only. One of the things I especially enjoyed is that they did not say, like many books do, that every bird is perfect for every person or situation. They gave realistic examples of some of the harder aspects of living with companion parrots and try to emphasize that it is a life decision to purchase a large parrot, because it is a lifelong responsibility. Personally my lifestyle would not allow me to have a large companion parrot anyway, but if I were considering the idea, this book would have provided a well-needed reality check.
- I got this a year after having my bird, and I wish that I had it from day one. The book offers great advice on how to live well with a compainion bird.
It is written in a straight forward manner, and even gives examples of birds that they have worked with. There is also a list of birds and what personality traits they have. This is a good book to get when making a choice to get a bird, it will help you be prepared to bring your bird home, and it will help you get the kind of bird best suited to your situation and lifestyle.

2 comments about Your Outta Control Bird (Outta Control).
- This books gives you a way of relating to issues with birds... biting, screaming, feather plucking and many more. You'll gain a perspective from a pet birds point of view ... and be able to translate what it cannot say in human words to make it's life (and yours) much happier.
- Without a doubt one of the BEST books I've read on birds! Informative and fun to read. Helps to understand the way birds think. Truly sound advice on how to remedy behavioral problems and/or heading them off before they start. Great for all around advice including dietary needs, cage placement as it relates to behavior, when to consult an avian veterinarian (including how to find an avian veterinarian), flock behavior, etc. A must read for all bird owners~!! A BIG two thumbs up~!!

4 comments about The Backyard Birdhouse Book.
- excellent for the backyard birder. It offers really useful ideas for attracting birds and keeping them coming to your yard.
- I was sent this then-new book seven or eight years ago to review for my newspaper column on birds, and found it to be an excellent guide, not only on how to build boxes for all sorts of cavity-nesting birds, but also how to deal with problems like predators and pests. I built one of the boxes; it went together well and has served quite a few feathered families over the past five or six years.
- I was interested in putting up some birdhouses (nestboxes) in my backyard and trying to attract some of the more exotic birds, etc... I checked out about a dozen books form the library.. Well, this one hands down was the best...
Book starts out by going over the birds you would want to attract to your nestboxes, with pictures and bios on all the birds, such as bluebirds, chickadees, titmouses, etc.... Then it goes into the nestboxes, pro and cons of certain nestboxes.. and tells you how to alter each nestbox to attract the birds at the beginning of the book (mainly you just drill a size hole)....
While watching birds in my backyard or building a nestbox, I have consulted this book over and over.. It's a great book, and I have no idea why the other reviewer gave it such a bad review..
- This book was terrible. I couldn't believe how bad it was. It was very out of date and made no sense. The directions are very hard to follow and it doesn't give nearly enough details. This didn't work for me at all. My birdhouses kept falling apart!!! I would highly suggest another book to replace this one, or better yet, you can have mine because I won't be using it!

4 comments about Taming and Training Cockatoos.
- This is a well written book for the beginner Cockatoo owner. It has a lot of information that is important to know. Cockatoos are very different from the Macaws that I already own....which came as a surprise to me. I have not yet purchased a baby Cockatoo.....and after reading this book, I am not sure they are the bird for me. Just like I prefer Mules to horses.....and they are very different from eachother. If you are considering a Cockatoo......this is great reading. Enjoy!
- This book don't have much on how to train your bird.It only tell you a few starter points if your bird is wild. Mostly has pictures of different type of cockatoos and telling about them, It also has about clipping wings and nails. If you want the basic of two steps in tamining and training this is the book for you. Too me the title don't go with this book !!
- This book is a big waste of money! Personaly, I'm VERY supprised anyone published it! It doesn't tell you anything but what you already know from common sense, and it is extreamly repetive. It seems like the author didn't have enough things to say so she repeated herself so the book would be longer. Please don't waste your money on it!
- Although it seemed that the photographer favored the Palm Cockatoo, all of the pictures were excellent. As to the rest of the book, I was very discourraged. There was only a short and very concise section at the end of the book that delt with "Taming and Training Cockatoos."

3 comments about The Zebra Finch: An Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet.
- We got this book to help us with our finches and it's a good book with nice illustrations too. It's not real technical but it is adequate for a first book on finches and as it turned out the only book we needed.
- Excellent book in great condition ordered on Thursday recieved it the following Monday.
- This book is extrememly helpful, with great insight into the basics of Zebra care. I purchased most books available on Zebra finches, and this one by far stood out on top. I would strongly recommend any beginner purchase this book.
