5 comments about Interior Design Reference Manual: A Guide to the NCIDQ Exam.

1. Essential study guide for the NCIDQ exam. Do not bother to purchase the one from NCIDQ - that has about 6 pages of test questions and no explanation of the answers. This book not only has tests at the end of each chapter with answers and explanations but also a drawing design practicum. Invaluable - cannot say enough about this book. Just completed all three sections of the NCIDQ exam this weekend and felt well prepared.



2. I'm studying to take the NCIDQ and this book is a great tool. Each chapter gives a thorough review of each section in the NCIDQ and then asks you sample questions so you can quiz yourself. The best part is the answers to the sample questions because it gives the explanation of why the answer is correct and why the other options were not. Very helpful because several questions make it hard to choose the best answer between 2 choices. It will also be a great tool for everyday use afer the exam for quick reference on projects.



3. I wanted this book so I ordered it and got it in a matter of days. It was new and in great condition. Thanks.



4. This reference manual should be a must read for all design students and new designers. I have been in the business about 12 years and I have learned some new items from this book. It does scare you about the industry and the liability a designer has.



5. THIS IS A GREAT RESOURCE! ALMOST REFERENCES ALL THE OTHER BOOKS ON THE NCIDQ STUDY LIST. THIS COULD BE THE ONLY BOOK YOU NEED TO READ TO STUDY.

1 comments about The Architecture of the Roman Empire, Volume 1: An Introductory Study, Revised Edition (Yale Publications in the History of Art).

1. Although the book is titled an itroductory study, I would not reccomend to anyone start a journey into the Ancient Rome with McDonald's work, unless you are one of those persons who have deep fascination for Classical studies and ancient architecture. This book rewards an attentive reader and in the course of reading I was reffering constantly to Roman historians such as Seutonius and Tacitus. Through the careful analysis of the four great monuments of antiquity (the Domus Aurea, Domus Augustana, Trajan's Markets and the Pantheon), all centered in Rome, an author clearly shows a connections between symbolic meaning of the space, its forms, and construction techniques. This analysis is supplied with very descriptive illustrations, plans, and major dimensions of the explored monuments. In my opinion, this is one of the very few fundamental works on the Architecture of the Roman Empire that is available in English.

1. Post-tensioned concrete floor design is not taught in my graduate school. I bought the book because I have a project that I may need to design a post-tensioned floor system. The book measurements are mosly in metric units and the authors mostly referred to BT Codes NOT ACI. Though well written, I found it not very practical to my application.

1. These books are good for reviewing for the LARE. They are a good example of how the test questions are worded and how the test is set up. The only things I studied for the exam was these books and Time Saver Standards and I passed all of the sections on the first try except for one of the graphic sections and that was just because I made a couple stupid mistakes.



2. These books are not particularly helpful for the 2008 tests, as far as giving an indication of what is actually covered. They are really only useful in providing an idea of how the questions are worded. Study Time Saver Standards and focus on stormwater management.

1. After purchasing The New American House (Vol 1-3), The New American Cottage, and The New American Swimming Pool which are all excellant books, I ordered The New American Apartment and was severely disappointed.

   I SENT THE BOOK BACK! (if that gives you any idea of my satisfaction.)
   
   There are several interesting photos but unless you have several million dollars, the designs and concepts are so unapproachable to the average person that the book was useless for my needs. This is the same kind of stuff they show in Architectural Digest (as opposed to Fine Homebuilding.)




2. A must have book for a library collection of inspirational modern design. The Book outlines each architect's space with dramatic and all encompassing views along with drawings to further explain the concepts. It left me wanting more!



3. This is a very good looking lexicon from cover to cover, yet it is more of a starting point in the design mode than a technical manual. I usually don't spend much for books, but this is one exception I can make with little after thought.
