5 comments about Animal Talk: Interspecies Telepathic Communication.
- Animal Talk is one of the finest beginning books on telepathic animal communication that is available. This book is essential reading for anyone interested in discovering and developing their innate ability to telepathically communicate with all life. I first discovered this book many years ago, and reading it was the beginning of my journey to recover my buried telepathic abilities, and to validate the profound and deep connection I have had with beings of other species throughout my life. I find myself returning to this book again and again for its clear instruction, straightforward approach to healing misunderstandings and difficulties between humans and animals, and its compassionate and wise teaching of respect and reverence for all life. Written in a clear, straightforward, and friendly style, Ms. Smith takes the reader through basic exercises of how to send and receive messages from animals, covering issues of problem prevention, physical and emotional care of animals, animal viewpoints, wild animals, and teaching children about the unity of all life. Ms. Smith's warm and generous approach to teaching and to life is reflected in the style and content of this book, which is clear, direct, easy to read, and very approachable. She demystifies telepathic communication with animals in such a way that people can immediately begin to have deeper and more profound connections with the animals in their lives. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wishes to begin the journey of communicating with animals, understanding their viewpoints, and sharing a closer and deeper bond with them.
- Animaltalk is an excellent book. As always, Penelope Smith delivers a pioneering approach to the field of animal communication and explains the interspecies world of communication insightfully and accurately. Kudos and congratualtions on a book that shares so much information with its readers!
- What an adventure into the world of animals! I enjoyed Penelope's book immensely and can feel like I am right there reliving the experiences as she shares her personal insights. So much to learn, and there are certainly many facets and viewpoints from many authors. This was a pleasure to read, easy to follow, and helped me to believe in the depth of connection that is possible with our loving companions. Thanks to Penelope for being willing to share her gifts and journey into this realm.
- I'm an animal lover, have several hundred books and more than 100 documentary films about animals. I'm always looking for another publication to add to my knowledge and be uplifted or amazed by our animal friends.
However, after reading Amazon customers' comments on Smith's book, there were enough negative critiques to steer me away from it.
For those who share my decision, and also, perhaps, those who don't, you might be interested in another book of the same title -- "Animal Talk: Breaking the Code of Animal Language," by Tim Friend, pub. 2004. He's an excellent writer, and for this reader, at least, there isn't a dull page anywhere, his sense of humor (carefully applied, never overdone) adds a pleasant sparkle to the intriguing narrative, and there's not a single "over-the-top" statement that would stretch anyone's credulity. I highly recommend it.
-- Richard
- After reading a good deal of the book (I haven't finished it) and also going over others' reviews, it seems like the enjoyment of the book is greatly limited by the skeptism of the reader. If you're approaching it to tear it apart, it's simple enough to do so. There are some places in the book (such as where she says she's telling stories that give examples of love but don't even mention the word love or anything related to love within either story) that are easy to look at and go, "Did she even know what she was talking about?" While there are others that made me go, "Huh. I never thought of it in that light!" Ultimately, I think anyone can get something out of the book if they are open enough to do so, but the book also has the limitations that any book that requires faith does: Faith and Proof are not included, so don't expect it to be.

5 comments about James Herriot's Dog Stories: Warm And Wonderful Stories About The Animals Herriot Loves Best.
- James Herriot's Favorite Dog Stories is a short but delightful book written by the world famous veterinarian. It is beautifully illustrated by Lesley Holmes.
This book consists of ten stories from Herriot's previous books that feature dogs that he has treated over the years. It's difficult to pick a favorite as they all have amazing personalities. There is Brandy, who is such a scrounger that he gets his tongue stuck in tin cans that he digs out of the trash can. TrickiWoo, a Pekingese, picks winning horses at the races. And Gyp, an epileptic sheepdog, only barked once in his entire life. Although all the dogs have special characteristics, it is obvious that it would take a veterinarian with compassion and humor to see that these animals are more than just pets.
I truly enjoyed Favorite Dogs Stories. However, if you've already read Herriot's other books (which I haven't), you will find that they're repeats.
- All of James Herriot's books are great. This is another one. All dogs are unconditional love on four legs.

- I drive an hour each way to and from work, and this enjoyable book made the time go by quickly.
- This is an exceptional book of true stories from the author's actual experiences... a heart-warming book that will bring laughter, tears, and a thorough enjoyment for readers of all ages.
- I read his books as a teen and loved them. Bought the whole set for my grandsons, [teens]. They laughed until they cried. [so did I].

5 comments about A Good Dog: The Story of Orson, Who Changed My Life.
- Just unthinkably sad.
Do not support cruelty by buying books from Jon Katz the dog murderer.
Yes, I have 4 Border Collies and know of what I speak.
- Being an English teacher, I'm picky about books, but my son recommended this. It is well-written and truly stimulates emotions. I'm impressed. I thought only dog lovers would like this, but I can see many people of all ages and interests enjoying a man's heart-breaking decision. Not everyone would choose the author's path, but we have to respect that he put thought into it. Excellent true story.
- For a so-called "dog-lover" to write this rubbish and then try to profit off of it is simply unforgivable. What a selfish, arrogant man. I can only hope that karma catches up with Katz eventually. I sincerely believe that he, not Orson, should have been euthanized!
- This book is a review of the self indulgent actions by a self absorbed man. He has no clue what it means to be a true dog owner. He reminds me of a child who, tiring of a toy, throws it out and cries for a new toy to satisfy the need for the new. Orson , his "soulmate" border collie is really nothing more than a toy that doesn't work very well in Katz's eyes. Rather than learn about his dog, Katz destroys him, and buys a newer, better model.
Dog people love to read books about dogs. This book is not about a dog. It is about this guy Katz and his odd outlook on life. Don't buy the book. Don't fund this guy's way of life. There are enough copies being thrown away. Pick one up if you must, otherwise, there are so many great books out there... read one of those. (An example: Merle's Door by Ted Kerasote.)
- I so loved reading this book. This' my second book my Jon Katz. A Good Dog: The Story of Orson Who Changed My Life was a book that made me giggle and also weep. His love for the much loved Orson was so touching and real. Jon Katz has become my new favorite author.
I wish I could've met Orson.

5 comments about Broadway Tails: Heartfelt Stories of Rescued Dogs Who Became Showbiz Superstars.
- The author was a nineteen-year-old theater apprentice when he was offered a professional break - IF he could find and train a job to appear in the Broadway hit Annie. His rescue dog from a shelter made history - and BROADWAY TAILS offer similar stories of animals who overcame impossible odds to become co-stars in entertainment. Dog owners and animal lovers -and libraries catering to them - will find BROADWAY TAILS a winning story of animal heroism and talent, paired with black and white photos of the entertainers themselves.
- Excellent book for the dog lover. I heard the author and animal lover Bill Berloni interviewed on PBS radio, and had to read the book. It's full of stories and pictures about the dogs and other animals he's rescued and trained for Broadway and TV shows.
- This is a wonderful book, lovingly written, about Bill Berloni's unusual and fascinating career. And the work he's done rescuing and training dogs over 30 years is a remarkable testament to his humanity and creativity. An extremely entertaining read, for animal, as well as theater, lovers.
- I absolutely LOVED this book! I hated to put it down and could'nt wait to pick it up again. This is such a heart-warming book and though I cried several times, I laughed and cheered even more! Mr. Berloni's writing grabs you right from the start and does not let go. He is an amazing man whose patience and drive creates even more amazing animals!
This is an awesome, awesome read and if you love all animals, you'll love this book!
- With the plethora of dog-training books and television shows available to consumers today, it was natural to believe this book would be the superstar amongst them - just as its subjects are superstars of the canine world. However, though the stories conveyed in this book remain inspiring - and the book's message (that rescuing orphaned animals from shelters and supporting that worthy cause) comes through loud and clear - the book reads more like a chronicle of events rather than a grab-the-reader-by- the-seat-of-their-pants- with-amazing-tales-of-unbelievable- feats-by-dogs story. It rather reads like a journal kept by the trainer to recall the events of each dog's story and the anecdotes sometimes associated with each (and these anecdotes, again, while interesting in content are told so robotically as to become I-guess-you-had-to-be-there moments. It's too bad. This book, in the hands of a more skilled writer could've become a classic. Still an interesting read; but be prepared to add your own 'umph'.

5 comments about Found Dogs: Tales of Strays Who Landed on Their Feet.
- These are without a doubt heartwarming stories that leave the reader thinking "What if that person hadn't been at that spot at that time", or other mind-bending questions, but all in all, the lack of detail provided in the stories fails to draw the reader into them, leaving a choppy feel to the whole book. This, in turn, fails, to do what the writer hoped to accomplish, which was to show the fantastic chemistry between people and dogs, and demonstrate that dogs are capable of thinking and emotions far more complicated than humans have believed thus far.
- I purchased Second Chances last year for my 9 year old son so I knew this book would be just as good. If you want to read very short stories about stray dogs who found loving homes, this is the book. It will make you laugh, cry, and just feel good all over.
Everyone should "adopt" a shelter or stray once in their life. There is is no better feeling...they seem to have a way of "finding you."
- I loved this book so much.I recently adopted a dog after many years of only pedigree versions. I will always save a life and adopt from now on! My other 3 dogs with papers aren't so sure of this decision!
- As a dog lover and a current owner of 4 dogs (2 of whom were rescues) I applaud each and every pet owner in this book and I thank Elise Lufkin for putting these stories together so that they may be enjoyed by the people who rescue any animal or is thinking about rescuing. The joy and love these pets bring into a home is unbelievable.
- As the mama of an adopted stray dog from the ASPCA I am very interested in saved cats and dogs,(I have also taken in a stray cat). To me rescued animals are the best pets. The books that I have read are all happy books, there may be a lot of saddness in them, but for the most part they have a happy ending.
Amazon is full of books on cats and dogs, the selection can't be beat!

3 comments about Human to Horseman: A Journey of Discovery, Growth, and Celebration.
- This is a great book to add to any horseman's collection as it is always best to read more than one person's view on horses. The book was an easy read following Rick on his adventure in to the equine world. Rick adds valuable info and insights gleened from other notable horsemen/authors. The Tips and summations after each chapter are a wonderful addition thus creating a quick reference for future questions or slips of memory. I enjoyed reading the book and as with every author I have read, I learned a few things. Since there are no true "experts" in the horse world - meaning there is no one person that knows everything about horses - I have added this book to my "keep" pile (which hubby says is getting out of hand, but what does a golfer know about needing books on horses!!). Perhaps one day, I will have enough info collected that will culminate in a library that will have ALL the info on horses - if I live that long.
- This book while documenting Rick's quest for knowledge really reflects the journey we must all take to become partners with the equines in our lives. It is not an easy path because we must not only be physically aware but psychologically in tune with our bodies as well as our horse's. In gaining the trust of these creatures we must also give trust so we can travel together and enjoy exploring the world together. I see more when riding my horse than when walking alone because I am viewing through his eyes and ears and am made aware of flora and fauna that would be invisible otherwise.I really enjoyed this book and having been a rider for over fifty years on hundreds of horses,I recommend it.
- The bond between man and horse is ancient. "Human to Horseman: A Journey of Discovery, Growth, and Celebration" is a t book of advice, tips, tricks and techniques for any aspiring horseman or horsewoman who want to master their skill riding horses for fun, for competition, or for work. Covering both the basic techniques riders should know to get started to advanced techniques to training horses oneself, "Human to Horseman" is a must for anyone who loves and enjoys riding horses.

- Amelia's heart is in the right place. She truly adores animals, yet she can accent the emotions of communicating with them by intelligently and scientifically explaining how and why it happens.
This engaging and entertaining book will change the way you look at all animals - from your pets to the bugs that enter your home. It is heart-wrenching to realize the extent of the animals' emotions when you think how a good lot of them are treated by society in general.
Amelia cries out to the reader to join her in her mission to give a voice to those unheard. For anyone who wants to communicate with and understand animals, this battle cry will resonate with you and inspire you!
- For anyone who loves animals and wants a closer bond with them, this is the book to read. Amelia Kinkade combines knowledge with humor to make this book a real page turner. I highly recommend this book to anyone.
- The cover gives the impression this book is all about animals, and yes it is, however there is much more beneath it's cover. This book gives an insight into the nature of consciousness and how to work with it. Practical, scientific, mystical; it covers aspects of quantum physics as well as practical exercises to expand the mind. Good book for life learning in general. Communication with all species would be improved through your experience with this book. It was much more than I was expecting.
- Well I heard Amelia Kinkade on coast to coast with George Nory and had to pick up this book. It is very insightful! The exercises are provided right away and at first they didn't seem to work for me so I let my kids try it out and Hey! My 7 year old daughter was able to channel several of our animals that had died 2-3 years ago including our horse "Taboo". If she could do then so could we; within two weeks my wife and two children were getting really good at communicating with very type of animal you could think of (mostly living animals, lol). I am determined that this works so I will continue working at it until I can catch up with my wife and daughters.

- Dr. Sife, is a wonderful man full of compassion. love and knowledge and heartfelt feelings for the Loss of a Pet. To read his book, is to know his heart and soul for he, has experienced the same in that we all bond and unify with our animals. God Bless you Dr. Sife!
- I highly recommend this book for anyone grieving the death of a beloved pet. Dr. Sife gives very helpful information about the grieving process, and most important, reassurance that the pain one feels is very real, and not to be dismissed by anyone. Very well-written, insightful, with numerous photos. I would have been lost without this book.
- I ordered this book the day after my two dogs were euthanized for some extra support. It is very informative and helpful. I think it would even help deal with the grief of a human relative or friend aswell. I would suggest it to someone in grief with a pet definately.
- I operated a professional pet sitting service for eight years and this is the book that I always recommended to my human clients when their beloved companions made their transition to heaven. Dr. Sife writes with such compassion that he draws the reader in to assist with their anugish. Dr. Sife suggest many helpful things. From the very important stages of grief, to planning a memorial service, to offering to the reader ways to bare their grief until healing can come. Many books on pet grief are written but Dr. Sife's was pionner in this field. He is a practing therapist with a degree in counseling psycholoy, (Ph. D.). He specializes in pet berevement. He is also the founder of The Association of Pet Loss and Berevement.
My best friend and I just have suffered a terrible tragic loss of Solomon, a young feline companion that died very suddenly from choking. The Loss of A Pet is a lifeline for our broken hearts. One final note: The Chapter on our pets going to heaven is so comforting. Thank you Dr. Sife for helping the reader travel down this dark road.
- This book was very helpful to me during a trying time I had not too long ago. Do yourself a favor and buy it. I also read and highly recommend 'How to Roar: Pet Loss Grief Recovery' by Robin Jean Brown and 'Goodbye, Friend: Healing Wisdom for Anyone Who Has Ever Lost a Pet' by Gary Kowalski.

5 comments about Second Chances: More Tales of Found Dogs.
- The dogs' stories are very moving and inspirational, but anytime you have a book that takes stories from multiple people, there are always going to be some that just aren't that well written. I felt like that took away from the impact of the book.
- This is a good book with lots of short stories about dogs given second chances
- Every day we read about the horrible things people do to each other, to their children, and to animals. This book lifted my spirit by letting me know there are still some good people out there. There are still people who care about what happens to a poor stray dog, or an animal that is scheduled to die. They may be few, but they are out there.
- ... but this book was a let down for me. Almost each and every story was poorly written and I could not really "feel" for the stories the way that I wanted to and the way that I think these animals "deserve". It was mostly "... and then this happened, and then that and then that and now we are happy together..."
Could have been a much better book in my opinion!
- [...]
Second Chance is a touching story about adoption. Mom and Ryan, her adopted autistic son, go to an animal shelter to adopt a dog. Chance is a Rottweiler, German Shepherd mix puppy. He is now Ryan's dog. Chance has to adjust to having two smaller brothers and a smaller sister. He has to learn Mom's rules. Chance is a lucky dog to live with such a loving family. The front cover is beautifully illustrated. I read this story to my 6 and 7-year-old grandchildren. Unfortunately, it did not hold their attention. The illustrations inside the book are dark and muted. The printing is in white, which made it hard to read. Personally, I liked the plot, but it lacks appeal to children.
