1 comments about American Farm Collectibles: Identification and Price Guide, 2nd Edition.
- American Farm Collectibles: Identification And Price Guide is a catalog of classic mementos of the bygone era of American farm life, including tools, antique tractors, toys and sleds, kitchen utensils, gardening items, turn-of-the-century ads, and much more. Black-and-white photographs fill almost every page other than the 32 pages of color photos, and the text offers straightforward item descriptions, current prices, and advice for finding collectibles and antiques. A superb resource for the dedicated enthusiast, and fun just to page through for the memories and nostalgia.

1 comments about Eric Sloane's Weather Book.
- I didn't realize we had inherited a copy of this book from my father-in-law until I found it rather late in the semester I took Meteorology. I read it cover-to-cover while studying for the final and managed a 'B' which for me on a science topic was AWESOME. Eric Sloane's simplistic explanations and drawings helped this non-science major grasp some of the tougher concepts.
The only time I really NOTICED how old it is was when he mentioned how the earth would appear if one were to take a trip into space in a suit made of air -- we hadn't landed on the moon when this was written. No mention of ozone or the top two levels of the atmosphere either but, hey, who knew they were there in 1949?

5 comments about Peacemakers: Arms And Adventure In The American West.
- As with all the author's books, this one has far too much emphasis on the fancy, special, engraved firearms.
- This book was one of the best purchases I have ever made! Already it has given me hours of entertainment, new knowledge of the west, and new insights in areas I had not before looked into.
The photography, and the items pictured, are worth the price of the book alone.
Overall an excellent book!!! And worth every penny!

- The book is full of color pictures of the guns used in the west and has exhibits from many of the western museums. It is not just a study of the Colt Single Action Army but covers rifles and shotguns. It displays the guns that are documented as being used by the lawmen and gunfighters of the time.
- Another great book from R.L. Wilson. Every bit as entertaining and informative as the others he's wrote. Fun to read about the old west and the guns used to tame it.
- My gun loving son, cried when his teacher would not let him bring this book to school to show his friends. It's absolutely gorgeous with an interesting text and glorious photos. We love the section showing the actors and their screen guns.

3 comments about Only in Minnesota.
- I don't think I will ever understand why people from MN think that its so unique. Minnesota does not have much going for it.
- i found this book to be a wonderful guide to the newly transplanted and for folks like me, who have lived here all my life. i had no idea there is so much beauty & long lived traditions. i mostly spend my time going to the ne corner of the state-lake superior but now i have had a glimpse of what other fabulous places are here in minnesota and will begin to explore what is 'only in minnesota'. thank you for creating this book!
- I love this book, I recently moved out of Minnesota and miss it dearly. This book is a beautiful tribute to the scenic views, great places to visit and the charismatic people who live there.

4 comments about Mountain Dew: The History.
- An excellent source of information on Mountain Dew and the history surrounding this much loved lemony citrus sugar and caffeine drink.
- As a major collector of Mt Dew bottles and items, I was glad to see such a comprehensive account of the Mt Dew soft drink. Most of this history has been unknown until now. Dick has gone to great lengths to research and interview those who were involved with the formulation of this brand. The many pictures and personal accounts add to the overall enjoyment and add great interest to the reader. All three of Dick's Mt Dew books are a must have for anyone interested in Mt Dew or the post WWII development of the soft drink industry in general.
- This is a fascinating story, especially for those of us that live in the East Tennessee & Western North Carolina area. This book leaves no stone unturned in the search for the origin of what is now one of the most populat beverages in the U.S. Before Coke & Pepsi controlled most of the soft drink market, there were several regional bottlers in this area. This book is a great history lesson, as it brings you back to the time when drinks came in a bottle that you returned to the store, where there was often a cooler filled with ice cold water & the drinks were hung by their neck and you had to rearrange some of them to get to the flavor you wanted. Excellently researched, this is a fun read for just about anyone. It'll tickle your innards!
- WOW !!! This book was long overdue. What a fascinating story of America's
third best selling soft drink. The book calls the story "a Hatfield and
McCoy feud of the braggin' rights to Mountain Dew" and now I understand
exactly what they mean. This could easily be the basis for "Oh Brother How Art Thou II".
A true story where the main characters were hard working, hard drinking bottlers ... but they are also some of the quirkiest, funniest hillbillies I've ever met.
The book is an extremely interesting read whether you care about Mountain Dew or not. I would recommend it to anyone. The story, Mountain Dew, could easily pass as one of the most entertaining case studies I've read. The book is very well researched, well documented and includes great old B/W pictures from the early years of bottling.
Oh yeah ... I also wanted to know more about how Pepsi markets Mountain Dew today. And I did. I learned all about Code Red, Livewire, Amp etc ... I even learned what happened to Mountain Dew Code Blue.
Overall, a great read !!!

1 comments about Tramp Art: A Folk Art Phenomenon.
- Tramp Art is a specific type of folk art made by layering notched pieces of wood in order to create ornate and multi-dimensional surfaces. Most tramp art was made in the Great Depression years from wooden cigar boxes. Helaine Fendelman was the curator of the 1975 exhibition "Tramp Art" at the Museum of American Folk Art. Jonathon Taylor, a professional photographer and tramp art collector, has done extensive research of the history of Tramp Art. Entertaining and beautifully illustrated, the book is noted as the "seminal guide to Tramp Art", and chapters include: What is Tramp Art?, Evolution of the Art, the Artists, How Tramp Art was made, the Continuing Trade, etc. At present, this is the best book on the subject of Tramp Art.

2 comments about Mechanical Variations of Mauser Bolt Action Military Rifles.
- This treatise on the Mauser turn-bolt system rifles is largely an index to information contained in the "standard" works on Mauser, especially Ball's Mauser Military Rifles of the World and Ludwig Olsen's Mauser Bolt Rifles. The author makes no claims to be in an expert; the preface outlines the author's goal to give the reader a way to identify rifles and focus on their mechanical variations - this it does.
Pros:
· Several good timelines on rifle manufactures, cartridges and, of course, models.
· Lots of black and white photographs; photo quality fair to excellent.
· Concise dimensions of the component parts of various models.
Cons:
· Little "new" information.
· The writing style and humor (acknowledged by the author in his preface) is all his own - not at all what I was expecting in a scholarly study authored by a Professional Engineer.
This book is a useful adjunct to the detail-oriented collector/researcher if you already have the more commonly read Mauser rifle books.
- This book is a compiliation of articles out of many other reference books. If you have all the other references, it's kind of a dissapointment. However, I'm sure I'll find some limited use for it someday.
