- This is a great book for anyone needing to get to the source of help they need quickly. I use it often as a fast refresher and as a constant guide in my daily endeavors, whether it be professional or personal. I recommend this to all who are starting in management, sales, or just simply wanting to improve your outlook on life and reduce stress. But you don't have to take my word for it.....(Reading Rainbow theme in background...)

5 comments about Dont Sweat The Small Stuff In Love.
- Many times life can become overwhelming. Don't sweat the small stuff in love can keep you focused on the most important thing in life--love. A good book for inspiration and remembering what matters. Annie Lawrence, author of Love's Secret Live Your Life In Love.
- This book is the exact same concept as all the other "Don't Sweat..." books, it's just dealing with love.
I really like the writing style of the author (and his wife, who will "guest" author some of the chapters) and it's very easy to read.
I started to read the book over a year ago but still retain some of the concepts I read which means they really get the point across in the short chapters.
I would recommend this book for anyone in a loving (or not loving - it may help then too) relationship because the even if the content doesn't apply to the particular point in your life you are currently in (ex. marriage, kids, etc.) the concept still applies. Great book.
- This book was delivered in the time frame the company said. It came packaged and had no damage to it. I will do bussiness again with the seller.
- I just recently am a Married to a wonderful woman and this has helped me out just starting living with a person as well as taking in a insight from another person on how to look at it. This book has defantly strenghened our relationship and is a must read for anyone in a relationship. And remember everything is small stuff!
- I bought this book at the same time as the original "Don't sweat the small stuff" book. Switching back and forth between the two of them, I found them to be a bit repetitive. Its a nice little book though, of reminders to do unto others as you would have done to you. I did especially like the passage about "whose quirk is it anyway" - totally described me and let me spin my thinking on matters where I think my S.O. is not doing something up to "standards", its definitely because I have odd standards for these things. :) Its a nice book to read a few passages from before bedtime, puts your head in a happy, content place.

2 comments about Don't Get Scrooged CD: How to Thrive in a World Full of Obnoxious, Incompetent, Arrogant, and Downright Mean-spirited People.
- Richard Carlson was an amazingly talented author and human being. His understanding and sensible suggestions are practical ways of helping anyone. I enjoy all his writings and have found that his books are great gifts for the people you love and care for.
- This introduced me to Richard Carlson's work. I chose the CD (over the book) for no particular reason. The title itself grabbed me, as it captured a viewpoint that reflected my own vision of the world. The CD seems rather lightweight at first, but upon reflection and additional listening, I detected the subtle profundity buried beneath the seemingly folksy advice. I believe he draws upon Eastern philosophies (Buddhism/Taoism) to shape his advice. Like the concept of "wu wei wu" from Taoism, Carlson carefully illustrates how doing nothing about confrontational situations can often result in very positive results. The crux of his argument is that the more secure you are with yourself, the more resilient and battle-hardened you will become in dealing with obnoxious individuals ... perhaps... even learning to feel a sense of compassion for those who resort to bad behavior to express their inner frustration, unresolved personal conflicts, or general maladjustment to the world. I recommend this to anyone who is at his/her wits end in dealing with a difficult person. You'll come away with some fresh ideas -- not always easy to play out -- but very, very practical and wise.

5 comments about Don't Sweat the Small Stuff for Teens (Don't Sweat the Small Stuff (Time Warner)).
- When my grandma first gave me this book, I thought it was gonna be another useless book saying "just be yourself" and all that [...]. But this book actually has substance and I was surprised that I actually got something out of it. Recommended to any teen on the "emotional roller coaster" who needs some guidance in their life.
- This book is irresponsible. A major assertion in the opening pages could drive a troubled kid over the edge to suicide. The premise of the first chapter is that for a teen to tell their troubles to a friend or anyone else is the same as "barfing on your friends". As crisis center and peer counselors know, many teens hold their most disturbing thoughts and emotions to themselves, and in all too many that leads to suicide attempts or successful suicides. Any useful ideas the author may have expressed in the rest of the book is more than negated by this irresponsible, lunatic advice. Please Amazon.com, withdraw this item from sale to impressionable teenagers looking for advice in their troubled lives.
- I am very dissapointed in this book. It is intended for a teen audience, but is written for an adult audience. I read it to several teens individually to get their opinion. One student commented, "It's obvious he doesn't have any teenagers." Try the library before buying this book I wish I had.
- I had previously bought and read two other books by Richard Carlson, Shortcut Through Therapy and Don't sweat the small stuff...it's all just small stuff. I had found that both those books made a huge difference in my life and helped me, as someone who suffers from anxiety, to look at life in a very different way. I had even read bits and pieces of Don't sweat the small stuff to my sons when they themselves were dealing with issues of their own. My younger son is soon to be 13 and my older son is 16 and has Aspergers syndrome. What was interesting was the my older son, the one with Aspergers, really crasped the simple easy to understand writing of the late Richard Carlson, so when I came across the Don't sweat the small stuff for teens I decided to get it too. As with Don't sweat the small stuff...it's all just small stuff, the one for teens is fantastic. Another thing which makes them so great is that each chapter is unrelated to the others, so you can just jump to a chapter which is very short,( takes only 5 minutes to read), read it with or to your teen and it will offer a simple solution to the situation at hand. I even carry the don't sweat the small stuff books in my handbag, as they are small and light, and we often just stop the car, pull to the side and solve a problem there and then! I would recommend both Don't sweat the small stuff books as I feel they go hand in hand and compliment each other. And if you have a high functioning Autistic teen, then I would really go for it, even though it is not written for teens in the autistic spectrum. The reading is so short that you won't loose their attention and actually encourages them to look deeper inside and see a way out which then lessens anxiety.
Dora Blondal Mizzi
- I am a psychologist who works a lot with anxious kids and teens and I have an anxious teen of my own at home. This book is very helpful in providing helpful and concrete coping tips. My daughter keeps it by her bedside and reads it most nights before she falls asleep. While she does not talk about the book much, I know it is helping because I see her applying the tips she reads about in her everyday stessors.

5 comments about Easier Than You Think CD: Small Changes that Add Up to a World of Difference in Life.
- I thought this was a good book. It really helps to think about things in a different way. Sure it's some stuff you have heard before, but it really helps reading it. I enjoyed it.
- Richard Carlson has turned himself into a veritable one-man brand and industry with his "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff" series of books. Here he argues that small stuff - small changes , actually, can have a significant and positive impact on our lives and the lives of others.
Carlson is not calling for quantum changes; he seems to be an instrumentalist at heart. The short chapters in this very readable book illustrate a smorgasbord of ideas on saving money, enriching your intellectual life (read eight pages a day) to deepening your key relationships (take time to listen).
ETYT reflects the idea that, to succeed in life, you don't necessarily have to hit home runs. If you hit singles lots of times when you come to the plate, you will advance.
In expounding on this theme in a non-preachy way, Carlson himself has hit a home run.
- "Easier Than You Think" is a wonderful, heartwarming overview of life's important lessons and ideas. Richard's beautiful insights, stories, and writing style all contribute to an informative, eye opening, book that is a quick read! I recommend this book for everyone-it helps you take a step back from your life, and helps yourself evaluate to be a happier, more thoughtful person.
- Once we're hooked on reading, our lives become so much richer and more interesting." ~ pg. 172
Richard Carlson believes in making small changes in order to transform your life in big ways. Instead of being grumpy and miserable you can choose the path of gratitude or instead of being angry you can learn to laugh more. When was the last time you planted a tree? When was the last time you showed kindness to someone in need? This is what this book is about and it has numerous good ideas that work in real life.
In fact, the other day when I was out walking I saw a couple with their dog and they were collecting all the garbage along the pathway they were walking. They must have read page 187: "pick up litter in someone else's yard or property." This inspired me and it made my day to see someone practicing an act of what seemed like random kindness.
This book also has some good ideas about managing your time more wisely. There is a chapter on learning to say no for those who don't seem to have enough time for themselves and a chapter about saying yes for those who need a little motivation to do more with their free time.
"Easier Than You Think" is all about improving your current life and making life more enjoyable for those you are in contact with on a daily basis. If you enjoyed the "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff" series then this book has even more good ideas you can put into practice immediately. This is another book by an author who truly seems to want to make the world a happier place.
~The Rebecca Review
P.S. While out walking recently two teenagers threw their energy drink cans down next to the walking trail in a park. The first day I saw them drinking the drinks I didn't do anything. But the next day I picked up the cans for them and tossed them in the trash. I was amazed at how doing such a small thing made me feel happier.
- I find this book to be filled with some basic rules for being a good person; good to yourself, good to those you care about, and good to the world as a whole. This book would make a nice gift for someone at a crossroad in their life.

5 comments about Don't Sweat the Small Stuff...And It's All Small Stuff: Simple Things To Keep The Little Things From Taking Over Your Life.
- My name is Patrick Lane and I am a Sophomore currently enrolled at Loyola Marymount University. I decided to read this book for my interpersonal communications class and I am required to write a review for my final paper. I chose the book because I was interested in becoming a more optimistic, self confident person in order to become a better communicator and this book seemed to fit the bill. The book came off as an anger management guide at first glance. But soon after I began reading, it was clearly an aid to becoming a better communicator, whether that was its intention or not. I really enjoyed how clear and simple the topics were while also providing great insight. I can honestly say that this isn't a book that you become engrossed in, and I don't believe the author was trying to achieve that. This work seems to be, like I said before, more of a set of guidelines than a literary work. I would have like to have seen sections established and the chapters organized in some way based on what they were conveying. I felt that the length of the chapters were too short and ended rather abruptly leading to me to ask myself why the author did not go into more detail. While the organization was a little suspect, there were great values to be taken out of each chapter and life lessons that need to be taken to heart. The one lesson that stood out was from a chapter titled "Choose Your Battles Wisely". Great insight for any relationship whether it be with a brother, sister, friend, or a life long partner. A specific quote from that chapter says, "If you choose your battles wisely, you'll be far more effective in winning those that are truly important." The book really made an impact on me. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone who asks about it because it has such great advice to becoming a more optimistic person and skill communicator.
- I really enjoy this audio CD because i can listen to it at work, in the car, when i walk, etc. The content is so helpful, it gives you ideas and practical ways to face your life. I think that this material help me to be a better person and live my life with less stress. Also i am learning not to stress myself with things that are not important.
This is great!
- I love this book because it reminds you that your life is determined by your attitude and perspective. Carlson gives you 100 simple ways to improve your life. I like to read one or two rules a day, keeping them in mind throughout the day.
- This is one of the best books I have come across. A very easy read for something that is life changing. A must for every house. Even if one of the 100 suggestions is adopted, the book will be well worth the time and money.
- Are you a stress case? Do you have trouble forgiving? Do you need help showing love or need help learning how to receive it? This book does all of that and so much more. I wish that I would have read this book in my teens when I though I knew it all and thought I was invinceable. I am 36 now and suffer from insomnia and stress. This book has helped me in all areas of life. Good bathroom reading. You can read 1 or 2 chapters in minutes and meditate on just how true his words are and how they relate to your own life. He was a very thoughful, loving, careing, giving and best of all a Christian man. Sadly he died a few years back but he left behind a great legacy in my opinion. A+

5 comments about You Can Be Happy No Matter What: Five Principles for Keeping Life in Perspective.
- Great book for those of us who occasionally have to pull our head out! I recommend all of Richard Carlson's books, wish he was still here to write a few more! Kirk
- I this book during my 45 minute train ride into work, this morning. It is really, really basic stuff. The five points contained in the book's 141 pages could have been accurately and completely reduced to a five page essay, MAX.
The book's central premise is that our thoughts control our moods. If we reject our negative thoughts and nurture our positive thoughts, we will be happier people. (Okay, maybe the five points contained in the book's 141 pages could have been accurately and completely reduced to a single sentence.)
What I found suspect about the book is that it dismissed or at least ignored the certainly helpful warning signs that negative thoughts and low moods provide to us. No where in the book was the lesson that if our thoughts or moods are negative, perhaps our actions need to be assessed and corrected. There was no call in the book for self examination and discipline.
In short, Richard Carlson's "You can be Happy No Matter What: Five Principles Your Therapist Never Told You" is not a worthwhile read for anyone who reads at a level above the Fifth grade, or has engaged in a single moment of self examination. I've just deposited my copy in the trash.
- You need to take this book and it's incorrect title ("no matter what?" I don't think so) with a grain of salt. There is some great psychology here, and I think he's right on with a lot of it, especially understanding WHY you are thinking negative thoughts and that you are in control of your thought process.
He admits you cannot always be in a good or neutral mood, and that you can't ignore your problems, but he doesn't do a very good job of reconciling that with the rest of the philosophy.
The book is a bit repetitive; it probably could have been a 20 or 30 page book and still included the same basic information, even including examples.
There is good stuff, though: the way you think about things can be positive or negative. Negative thinking will put you in a bad mood. You have to recognize that thinking is just a way your brain processes information, and it's not "reality," just your interpretation of input. Your mood affects your thought process; your personal bias filters "input." For example, if someone says to you "nice hat," if you are in a negative mood, you might believe they are insulting you when they weren't; if you were in a good mood, you might take it as compliment... same thing, said the exact same way, interpreted by your brain.
It's a lot of good food for thought, and I'd say he's certainly more right than wrong, I simply think much of the solutions are unrealistic.
For example, while it might be better to problem solve when I'm in a good mood, that's simply not realistic when you are in a situation where you must solve a problem immediately (how often does this happen at work?) But it is certainly true that MANY problems can wait, and being that you can influence your mood (and perhaps, using some of these techniques and shorten a bad mood), you might be able to problem solve in a much better way that brute-forcing your way through a bad mood.
I would recommend this book, but I would also recommend that readers don't think of this as a be-all, end-all solution to depression, and also realize that while many of these principles can help you in many situations, they don't all apply to every situation.
- One thing common among all humans is that we constantly think; thus a book on understanding thought is invaluable to anyone seeking to sustain a high quality of life. Richard Carlson provides a commonsensical view of thoughts with this goal in mind. This book stands out among all books on the power of thoughts as it is based on a practical approach that can be instantly tested as oppose to many in the genre that include mystical beliefs about what the power of thought can accomplish.
So many books in the genre are based on the notion that your thoughts shape reality. Carlson, in a down to earth practical approach, notes that thoughts are thoughts, and that is all. Our thoughts can be completely counter to reality and they are still thoughts. Our thoughts can shape our mood, can influence our decisions, and can weigh heavily on the actions we ultimately take; however, beyond our own internal interpretation of events, thoughts have no other proven influence on reality. It is on this basis that Carlson discusses the value of understating our good and bad thoughts, and dismissing bad thoughts is simply the best policy. If you want to change your reality then take action. Being in the best mood possible is going to provide you with the peak mindset and most amount of mental strength and energy to permit this action. The moment you are fooled into the notion that what you think about alone will change reality, you are setting yourself up for dissapointment and failure.
Perhaps put best in Carlson's own words:
"We don't always have power over other people and/or events, but we do have tremendous power to feel happy and contented with our life. One nice byproduct of feeling happy `for no reason' is that troubling details begin to work themselves out. We actually think better, more clearly, and more intelligently when our minds are not full of boggling concerns...Feeling good' is highly practical."
Carlson's book is a refreshing getaway from the mystical books that currently engulf the genre. I highly recommend this book to anyone with interest human psychology that is seeking a practical approach to understanding thought rather than guesswork and unsubstantiated convictions.
- After about 30 pages I caught on to the fact that there's no need to actually read this book; you can just flip through and read the section headlines. You get the same effect. The info in the book is all well and good, but seriously how many times can you say the same thing in one paragraph? I guess it's supposed to really drive the ideas home, but... just make it a pamphlet already. It's not a book.

- I ordered this book, on Oct. 13, 2009 and I still have not rec'd it. I have treid to contact the seller backpack_books, but have not been able to locate an email address for them.
- Richard Carlson presents a collection of his wisdom in this easily read and extensively profound look at life. This book is filled with principles to produce a happy and productive life and is presented in simple one to two page chapters creating a near effortless read.
Although not as deep as some of Carlson's other works, this overview of thought provoking ideas is quality from start to finish. It covers everything form introspection, interaction with others, and a hefty dose of perspective that will leave any reader feeling optimistic about life when finished.
- and just re-read it...oldy but goody...always get something from it..but, i was most recently impressed by a new book i got on amazon called - live like a fruit fly - it's so different than anything else out there!
- As I read this, I began to realize the small things we don't notice, things we can easily change and make ourselves happier and more patient! I got excited, and then I came toward the last quarter of the book. I suddenly felt as if I were experiencing deja-vu! I almost felt like the author ran out of his ideas and just put his old ones into new wording. I was really in a hurry to finish this book at that point. However, on a good note, the ideas shared are something worth thinking about, and I think more people should take the time to read this book. It's not long, and if you don't like it, then you just took some time to yourself to read a book, and what's the harm in that? I just think the setup could have been a little easier to follow.
- A book for everyone (especially those of us that have a tendency to stress a lot). Just let it go! It's not that hard. People who say "easier said than done," as one review posts, tells me that the person is just simply not willing to change. The author is not saying for you to change everything all at once. The point is to start somewhere and go from there! This book has been a huge impact on my life for the positive...not just because I read it but because I applied it!

- As always, Dr. Chopra's insights reveal an outlook that makes you think, "why have I been working so hard at this, when it is really quite simple?" Listening to the audio version has been great on my way to work. Of course, I would listen to Deepak Chopra read the phone book and his melodic voice would make it astonishing!
- This book is fine if you are not farmiliar already with Deepak Chopra's work...why? because it is just an exerpt from earlier writings and audio programs...this man definitly knows how to make money by repacking the same thing for sale again and again. If you have not read or listened to his earilier stuff you will enjoy this.
- This book is very simple, short, to the point. I like it because you can sit down & read it in an hour or so & get alot from it if you really want to. And I'll probably read it over & over because of that. Good book, simple & straightforward.
- Purchased as a gift. My copy is well read. Speaks to the connectiveness of all life, encourages appreciation for the wonders that we are and have.
- The major title may be misleading to some readers but the subtitle makes the material topic more relative. The essential point of the book is the secret to a richer life......there is an unlimited supply. Creating Affluence by Deepak Chopra
