Steely Dan is trying to claim that the movie You, Me And Dupree ripped of their song Cousin Dupree. I haven’t seen the movie, but I have seen the trailers on TV and in the theater. I quickly looked up the lyrics to the Cousin Dupree song (which I have never even heard), and the song seems to be about some guy name Dupree having the hots for his cousin Janine. The movie seems to be about a lazy guy named Dupree staying with his buddy and his buddy’s wife. The song kind of suggests that Dupree might be staying at his Aunt Faye’s house.
But to say that the movie was even inspired by the song is a far stretch.
I just looked, and it looks like the song Cousin Dupree is from 2001? I didn’t even know that Steely Dan was still together. I liked a few of the songs off of Brain Salad Surgery. I liked Aja when it came out. I listen to Aja now, and I find it boring. Oh well.
