Richard Pelzer-A Brother's Journey : Surviving a Childhood of Abuse

A Brother’s Journey : Surviving a Childhood of Abuse by Richard B. Pelzer

SUMMARY: True story of child abuse that makes Stephen King look tame.

My wife read David Pelzer’s books A Child Called “It”, The Lost Boy, and A Man Named Dave. I know she liked them, but I never read them. I was at the library and saw they had Richard Peltzer’s book A Brother’s Journey as a book on CD, so I decided to check it out.
This book talks about David in the early part. Young David lived in the dark basement. He was pretty much starved. When he was allow to eat, he was made to eat from a dog bowl under the table. He was at times forced to throw up to prove that he hadn’t been eating, and then forced to eat the vomit. Then there were the savage beatings. The mother also turned the other sons against David as well by rewarding their abuse of him. After the mother almost kills David with a knife, he is removed to a foster home. None of the other kids are removed. Richard gradually becomes the target of his mother’s drunken sick abuse. Some of his “punishments” included being forced the drink Tabasco sauce, having his broken hand smashed in a door, and of course the severe beatings.
As I listened to this book I became angrier and angrier. The mother was a real life psycho bitch from hell. It really makes you want to hunt her down, and beat her to death with a baseball bat. If someone had killed the bitch, it would have been a public service! I read that she is dead now. I hope that she died a long slow painful death, alone, and covered in her own filth! I hope that she is rotting hell now!

The Night Before

I was at the local Goodwill store looking for a cheap bedside lamp that I can fit a CFL bulb into. I also explored the book section for any valuable books, but didn’t find any. I glanced at the video section and wondered to myself when we would start seeing more DVDs in thrift stores. Mostly they are filled with VHS tapes. This Goodwill had a few childrens cartoons on DVD…dollar store fodder. I was about to turn away when I noticed what looked like another DVD. I examined it, and found it to be The Night Before with Keanu Reeves and Lori Laughlin. I love this movie! I already have a VHS (ex-rental) copy of it. And I have not found it available on DVD in this country. I have found one place that seems to be selling bootlegs, but haven’t been interested in buying a bootleg. The price was only $3.99, so I bought it. I noticed while in my car, that it is region 4. I am in the US which is region 1. That is okay. For many DVD players, you can search the net, and find codes to unlock your DVD player and change the region code, or remove it all together. I have already done this on a couple of my DVD players. Many times it is as simple as punching a short sequence on the remote control, sort of like entering cheat codes for your video game machine (ie Xbox or Playstation).
I am excited! I love this movie. Keanu Reeves is hilarious. Lori Laughlin is funny and very cute. It is a great romantic comedy! It is one of my favorite movies!

BTW, if you want to try to remove the region limitation from your DVD player, do a google search including the words “region hack” along with the brand and model of your DVD player/recorder (ie: “lite on 1105hc region hack”). You may find some pages that will give you the codes. Remember, you use these codes or hacks at your own risk!

Santa Fe District Judge Daniel Sanchez should be removed from the bench!
Colleen Nestler of New Mexico claims that David Letterman has been sending her coded messages through the TV. She says he has been telling her what to do, and even asked her to marry him. Santa Fe District Judge Daniel Sanchez granted her a temporary restraining order. In her six-page letter to the court, Nestler requested that Letterman stay at least three yards away from her and that he not “think of me, and release me from his mental harassment and hammering.”
Nestler is obviously a mental case. And Judge Daniel Sanchez is obviously incompetent, and should be fired!

I first heard about Tripledge silicone wiper blades from Paul Harvey on the radio. One of those faux news blurbs that is really a commercial. Living here in New York in the winter, it gets really cold! It was only 9 degrees outside when I got up this morning. In the cold, my rubber wipers get stiff, and don’t work well. So I decided to give these a try. I bought two sets, one for my car, and one for my wife’s car as she needed new blades as well. We both have 2000 Honda Civic’s so it was easy to grab two of each size. They are supposed to have a lifetime warranty, but I am guessing that I will have to pay shipping and handling, or mail the blades back, or something like that to make the warranty not worthwhile. But we’ll see. Not sure how the silicone will hold up when it hits the little bits of ice or frost on the windshield.

The local grocery store used to carry Marie Callender’s frozen entrees, but for some reason decided to replace them with Boston Market entrees. The Marie Callender’s frozen entrees are great, especially their fettucini with alfredo (better than many restaurants). The Boston Market stuff all seemed to be pretty generic, and not a lot of variety. So when we wanted fettucini with alfredo for dinner, we went over to their competitors. Thankfully they have brought back the Marie Callender’s, and dumped the Boston Market stuff. Frankly I still have not fully forgiven Boston Market for they way they closed a bunch of stores locally without any notice to their employees, and only a note on the door saying something along the lines of you don’t work here anymore. I just thought that was really cold!
