1 comments about Belinda: The Political and Private Life of Belinda Stronach.
  1. Author Don Martin pens an interesting biography of the most public of members of the Stronach family dynasty.

The Honorable Belinda Stronach is the daughter of Frank Stronach, perhaps most renowned for his Stronach Stables/Adena Springs Thoroughbred holdings and Magna Entertainment Corp., which owns a number of major tracks in North America.

Her life has been in a fast lane of politics, pop culture and business. A Liberal Member of Parliament (MP) in the Canadian House of Commons, she started her political career as a member of the Conservative Party; her friends include Brad Pitt, Bono and Gene Simmons of KISS and she has had major management positions in Magna International, the family's automotive enterprise.

Hers is a life that can be explored from many angles. And through the triumphs, controversies and tragedies, Martin keeps the pace of his text humming along, like a race car rhapsody.

1 comments about Requiem: Diana, Princess of Wales 1961-1997 - Memories and Tributes.
  1. This is one of the few very best books on Diana. Her closest friends speak or write about her not long after her death. The Clive James piece, "No", is unforgettable, as is the late poet laureate's poem 6 September 1997. This is a keeper; should be owned by all who love or admire Diana.

  1. I had little knowledge of the Hunt Family, but I was able to relate to the times and events the book covered. It intermingled many events in our past and supported some theories about Kennedy's death. I felt it made me question the material goals we set for ourselves. I also realized no matter what we achieve materially the greatest needs or wishes in life cannot be corrected.

  2. A rags to riches story about one of the more powerful families in Texas. Arizona Slim was originally from Illinois. He hopped around the country trying his hand at various things (including college). One thing he was good at was gambling and speculation. He speculated in land and then oil leases. His gambling contributed and funded the speculations in land and oil leases. His spectatular success in the oil fields of Texas and Arkansas led to his becoming the richest man in the world. He was also married to two women at the same time. His political beliefs were far right and based on the amount of money a man owned (cashocracy). His son blew a large portion of his inheritance on trying to corner the silver market. Last I heard, he was in bankruptcy.

This is a great story about a rich family. I was surprised at the story of this family. Tuccille writes his book as if it were a novel, but it is all true. This is a very nice read.

  1. I seems strange to me that someone so beautiful, talented, compassionate, understanding, smart, kind, giving, etc., etc. etc., could run thru eight husbands (or was it nine?). I'd like to hear a bit of their side of the story. This can't be as all black and white as it seems.

  2. We all have a unique and special life story. This is part of Jennifer's story. We can learn much from people's life stories - a lot from her's.
If the Almighty God can forgive a woman who was made as many mistakes as Jennifer, certainly there is hope for the rest of us if we come to him on his terms! If you know you've made mistakes and want hope and encouragement for your own life, read her story.

  3. Has anyone noticed that most of the rave reviews of this book are by devout Christians?
Now -- For those of us who are NOT religious, O'Neill's book is interesting mainly because this woman is a jaw-dropping psychological mess. I feel truly sorry for her children, since O'Neill is obviously someone who should never have had kids. As another reviewer pointed out, she married every man who showed any interest in her, had as many kids as possible, and immediately dumped them in the care of whoever happened to be handy -- even people who had proven themselves untrustworthy or even criminal! I hope that her born-again Christianity has made her a little bit easier for her family to live with.
I also was a bit disappointed that there were not more pictures of this very beautiful woman -- especially since her looks seem to be her only redeeming quality!

  4. Interesting story of the life of a celebrity. However, nearly every page has at least one type and numerous pages have typo after typo. It's hard to believe a publishing company would print a book that, literally, appears not be have been proofread: words like held instead of help, mean instead of meant, 'eds' left off where required, and on and on and on. If you are a fast reader this has a tendency to slow you down a bit when you have to skim twice to get the meaning of thought after thought.

  5. I am fascinated at the eye popping psychotic life this woman lead. That said, she is overly dramatic and annalyitical beginning with her second paragraph. Nevermind the details of her life, she is not a good writer. She certainly has a story to tell but ought to have hired a proffessional to do it for her, some one to delete all of her wierd similies and tell her when she is taking herself too seriously. She was a terrible mother, her kids could all write books too. Maybe they did...
