"A Tale of Two Worlds: My Life as a Proud Black Woman With White Skin" is Emily Juana Burke Orr's story of her life with 'vitiligo', a skin condition that the epidermis lose its pigmentation, turning dark colored skin white. Her stories of how people perceive her in matters of race, sometimes identified as black, sometimes identified as white - including being able to attend a Ku Klux Klan meeting and evading victimization in a race riot. An eye opening and intriguing look at race, "A Tale of Two Worlds" is a fascinating read and a highly recommended addition to academic and community library collections race relations and social issues reference collections.

1. John Whitehead comes through as a real person with a not so promising background who emerges as a "bigger than life" Christian man. He truly makes one believe that with God all things are possible. Not only do we learn the truth about Paula Jones, but he also has met Clinton, Dobson, Jim Bakker, Jerry Falwell, Anita Hill, Pat Robertson, Randall Terry, etc, etc. And, though the book is not about her, I am equally enthralled with his wife, Carol. What a woman! She should write her own book about her life with John and how she perservered. You will be fascinated about John Whitehead's "conversion story."



2. FROM A CHILD TO A MATURE MAN JOHN WHITEHEAD SHOWS STRENGTH AND INDEPENDENT THINKING. HIS COLLEGE REALTIONSHIP WITH A FUTURE JUDGE AND PRESIDENT GAVE HIM A PRIVY INSIGHT INTO WHAT MAKES THESE PEOPLE TICK.........I VERY MUCH ADMIRE JOHNS WIFE CAROL WHO BELIEVES AND SUPPORTS JOHN AND MOST OF HIS DECISIONS, NO MATTER WHAT, SHE IS HIS GREATEST FAN. I HAVE NOTICED HOW WE CHRISTIANS ARE APATHETIC, LACK OF KNOWLEDGE OF FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS, REFUSE TO STAND UP AND SPEAK OUT, HOWEVER THIS CHRISTMAS WAS UNDER TOTAL ATTACK AND THIS CHRISTIAN IS WIDE AWAKE, HOWEVER, IT TOOK AN ATTACK ON THE HOLLIDAY I LOVE MOST CHRISTMAS TO SPEAK OUT.........A GREAT BOOK, EDUCATIONAL IN FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS, ADVENTEROUS AND SHOWS A VERY TIGHT AND LOVEABLE FAMILY................

1. Smith is a black male law professor at Howard University. He selects documents which discuss black women in the law from the time that the first sister was sworn in to the present. This book has great statistical facts and is a good tool for arguing why affirmative action is necessary in law schools. However, I would have preferred if a historian had written this book. As it stands, this is just a scrapbook that included selected writings on the topic. There is much academic literature on women in the law and blacks in the law and it is not incorporated well into this book. In addition, there are a number of incredible black, female law professors out there and their work on black women's legal issues barely gets addressed here. In brief, this book is a nice piece to have, but it could have been better.
