5 comments about The First Partner: Hillary Rodham Clinton.
- I could not even finish the book. The negativity in virtually every chapter oppressed my soul. I wanted facts and to gain some knowledge about Hillary, and all I got was nausea. Milton's bias was oozing from every page. The information was second, third, and fourth hand, unsubstantiated, and based on assumptions and innuendo. It was like reading a tabloid that went on for over 400 pages. Milton spent too much time explaining what Hillary thought and what all of her "ulterior motives" were for virtually everything she has done in her life thus far. Did she know Hillary's inner thoughts by osmosis or through some Vulcan mind meld? Come on! Don't buy it, don't even check it out from the library. I would have given it a negative 5 rating, but that was not an option. A complete and utter waste of paper and ink.
- I bought this biography because I have always been fascinated with Hillary Rodham Clinton's role in her husband's administration. I was hoping for an objective look at her contributions to policy, instead, this novel is full of acrimonious allegations and innuendo. It seems that the author is completely unable to separate HRC the person from her politics. This book is horribly slanted and I would not recommend to someone who truly desires insight into either one of the Clintons.
- I got this book used and thought it would be interesting to read after the fact of HRC's moving on to other things. Without a doubt I believe the Clinton administration was filled with lies, deceit and well, just plain politics. This book is a discredit to thoughtful readers. I've only thrown away a handful of books in my life and this is one of them.
- Picked up this audio cassette edition in a remainder bin for $5, and thought I was swindled...
The author clearly wants to work a policy agenda, which disagrees a lot with Hillary's position on a wide variety of issues. An especially recurring theme is Hillary's position on family issues; the author would assert that Hillary wants the state to raise children and not mothers and fathers.
That being said, there is a lot of stuff in this book which, if halfway true, does form an image of Hillary as a post-hippie policy wonk who has a powerful intellect and strong will. I do think that, nearing the age of 60, Hillary has outgrown a lot of the viewpoints and beliefs attributed to her in this book.
And, as others here have said, this book is a scandalmongering exercise, but, well, we must educate ourselves on the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination, right? If this is as bad as anyone can possibly paint her, I'd say she's electable...
- I have not seen one bit of bias in this book. It reads to me very fairly balanced and objective. Where is all of the stuff that the anti-Clintonites are jumping on (Hillary is a mean leftist/socialist, this book is proof!)? Where is all of the stuff that the Clintonites are yelling UNFAIR! (The portrayal of Hillary is disgusting and mean, it's obvious that the author is biased against Hillary!) about? It's just -not- there. I don't see how describing Hillary's childhood the way the author does is anything but even-handed, though one may read into everything as Hillary being an overachiever (the author never states that outright, but from the list of accomplishments, that's what MY mind says to me; but also, since when is it BAD to be an overachiever?).
If your brain is not hotwired to overreact towards stretches of the imagination, then you'll find this biography a decent read about a fascinating woman with facts about her childhood, upbringing, personal and political life to be absorbed and deferred to whenever you hear a mention of Hillary's character in the current election cycle news. She does NOT descend from a wealthy family, she is NOT a bad person. Don't buy into the political hype (and certainly don't buy into the extreme hype of the reviewers here). It is way too obvious that the people leaving reviews are not at all fair people (be they Obamatrons, wingnuts or just plain vulgar people).

5 comments about Holocaust Survivor.
- "I was never a teenager...I lived on less than 800 calories a day...I was tortured; I was beaten; I've got scars on my face, but I always stood up. I always bounced back." Holocaust Survivor chronicles the five and a half years Mike Jacobs, founder of The Dallas Memorial Center for Holocaust Studies, spent as a youth in the ghettos and concentration camps of Poland including Auschwitz/Birkenau and Mauthausen/Gusen II. From the age of fifteen to nineteen, Mike witnessed and was subjected to horrors that no one should ever have to endure, including the infamous Death March in the dead of winter out of Auschwitz-Birkenau. He spares no detail in the retelling of the events he lived through, from the "beautiful dolls" and sadistic SS Sergeant of the Ostrowiec Ghetto, to the risky business of sabotaging the Messerschmidts he worked on as part of the camp resistance. Mike credits his survival to three things: his faith, his unfailing belief that he would one day be free, and his ability to dream. It is this underlying note of positive thinking that I think makes Mike's story different and eminently readable for all ages. Mike easily makes us believe that, despite the darkness and despair surrounding him, he did, indeed, rely on his dreams and soaring imagination to keep hope alive. His concentration camp friends thought "Mendel is getting off his rocker," but Mike felt the secret of survival was to close his eyes and soar high above the camp like a bird. "Guys, you wouldn't believe it! It was beautiful--I traveled all over the world, I was free!" This incredible story of spirit, endurance, and triumph over impossible odds is punctuated with Mike's message: "Hate breeds hate. But we cannot be silent or complacent. If we are, this can happen again." Thank you, Mike, for all the times you've spoken to my students, touched their hearts, moved them to tears, and ultimately, made them a formidable force for change.
- Some people write books for money or recognition - not Mike Jacobs.
His whole message - both in person and in his book - urges each one of us to "always remember, never forget," and to "never become silent or complacent." This message at first seemed somewhat obvious from what one might expect from a survivor. But Mike has a different spin on his message: He doesn't hate, and he doesn't feel self pity. Rather, he's exhuberant in his mission to live life to its fullest, and along the way, to explain what he lived through so no one human being ever has to face it again. His book is incredible - not just one to add to any collection; rather, your interest in a survivor's tale and triumph over such horrifying persecution should start right here with Mike. Let him tell you what really happened as he lived it first hand...and walk away with the message he lives every day to pass on to us, our children and their children.
- Mike came to our school in October and shared a VERY SAD story with us and shode us some very strange things like the soup made of human Fat and a little bottle of poison. And much more but I cant remember them all well I REALLY want to buy his book to see alot more stuff about it!!
- I am leading a group of five High School Seniors in an independent study about the Holocaust. This work, Holocaust Survivor, is a great resource. It is a raw, transcribed oral history of one man's journey. My students have found it very moving and informative.
- I am utterly amazed at what this man went through. I have read alot about the holocaust but every survivor has a different story and there is always something that will shock you with every story. The horrors of what happened will never cease to shock me, never. This man has written a memoire that is packed with people and events than do not allow you to put this book down. It is very interesting to read and through all the horror you are glad to know that he made it through and had done so many wonderfull things with his life. I finished this book very quickly due to the fact it was hard to put down. I would recomend this book highly not only because it is so interesting but because it will allow to to understand how blessed we all are, you might just will change the way you live and think.

5 comments about I Rest My Case.
- I should have given this book five stars. Five for the amount of B.S. it contains. It never ceases to amaze me that in our modern society, the narcissistic people who are politically and socially corrupt, are hailed by themselves as hero's. Shaw confesses to having deceived his family for many years before finally writing his "legacy". What would make the reader now suddenly believe an admitted liar? I get the impression Shaw is still a "Schmuck" with a fountain pen". Only these days, he and his law firm steal more with those pens than an army of gangsters with guns.
- This book is supposed to chronicle Shaw's career as a legacy to his family. Some career. Him and his law firm through his partner George Esernio, receive patronage appointments nowadays from people like judge Frank S Rossetti who was appointed not elected by Gov. Pataki so that they could steal millions in fees from the elderly and infirmed while the families of those elderly people go starving.
- Is this the same Shaw that has a law firm on Long Island known as Shaw, Licitra, Esernio, Bohner & Schwartz? The one that receives so much praise, patronage and rewards from the heirarchy of people in power? If you need a lawyer or firm with influence and crooked political connections, this one is among the top ten.
- I have personally witnessed Shaw's law firm in action. They suck. I saw one instance where they took millions of dollars from my childhood friend and charged hundreds of thousands in legal fees for simply clipping coupons and for instigating problems of an already dysfunctional family.
- In 1994, Mike DeLano, my best friend of more than 50 years, suffered a minor stroke. This excuse was used to declare Mike "incapacitated" when his immediate family began to fight over Mike's assets. George Esernio of Shaw, Licitra, Esernio, Schwartz & Bohner, along with Mike's wife Kathryn, were "appointed" as co-guardians of Mike's estate by Judge Frank S Rossetti, who himself is "appointed" by Governor Pataki, a staunch political supporter and personal friend of Stanley Shaw and his firm. A coincidence, I don't think so.
Co-guardians George Esernio and Kathryn DeLano, Mike's wife, after stealing everything they could before legally marshalling over four-million dollars in tax-free municipal bonds. You know, the kind you just need to clip the coupons on for the rest of your life and, would net a person nearly 2-3 hundred thousand dollars a year in income. Well, they began by spending eight-hundred thousand in their first year causing bonds to be cashed in, thereby not only reducing principal, but the interest that Mike's bank accounts should receive in income. Throughout the next ten-years, despite objections the entire time from Mike's eldest son Franklin, the excessive spending continued until Mike's money was nearly all gone. Sadly but much richer, Mike's wife and her co-guardian attorney George Esernio, who now needed a big influx of cash to keep the excessive fees and other expenses being paid, not very surprisingly, decided to sell Mike's buildings and land in Queens that he and Franklin had built with their own hands over a period of forty years. Whew, another couple of million of Mike's money to spend on themselves for a few more years before they need to sell the next building. Oh, did I forget to mention that those buildings that Mike built contained other businesses' that Mike owned that were also adding income to Mike's estate for fifty-years. Too bad his wife Kathryn and George Esernio, who charged more in fees than Mike himself ever took in salary, went bust from "mis-management". So it would appear that Mr. Shaw and his firm are not Saints or knights in shining armor but instead, a bunch of crooks. At least in this example. Want to know more, call Franklin of the NBGAG (National Bad Guardianship Advocacy Group)at (406) 825-5040 or (406)628-4862 or go look up Index No. 24309-I-93 in the Nassau County Courthouse located at 240 Old Country Rd. in Mineola, NY. and be ready for the guardianship shock of your life!
