  1. I was hoping for a just-the-facts-m'am type of history that laid out Flynn's evolution, in a straightforward historical context. What I ended up getting, unfortunately, was another tired ideologically-driven screed that can't seem to just stick to what happened without injecting pointless (and awkwardly phrased) commentary at every turn.

I had never heard of John Moser before, but after unloading this book at a garage sale I looked him up, and after I found out that he is a professor within The Ashbrook Center, I better understood why this text always seems to be grinding its ideological axe.

  1. I underline and make notes in my books. LeAnne's book contains as much of my ink as hers! I love the way she writes. Every line is sheer poetry...Did not know LeAnne nor the subject of her book. This turned out to be one of my top five favorites ever!

She can convey more thought in one line than some writers do in a chapter. I am now engaged in my first read of her second book. I know that I will be doing a second read as soon as I finish.

If you are a frustrated writer, you have to "study" this wonderful book. LeAnne Schreiber is simply the best!

  2. This memoir grabbed my attention by first being about a mother/daughter relationship and second because it was about the mother having CA. I read this book some time ago and I think I will pick it up sometime and reread it.

1 comments about A Boy's War.
  1. This memoir of an 18-year-old kid from North Carolina who is drafted after one year of college and sent to Burma is a fascinating account of his army life. The daily boredom and intermittant activity, combined with Davis' chronicling of his training and the men he worked with make for entaining and touching reading. Those who shared the World War II experience are diminishing in number, which makes accounts like this all the more valuable.
