5 comments about The Confessions of Kurt Gerstein.
  1. This book has nothing "anti-Semitic" or anti-Jewish! This book is not written to deny the Jewish holocaust in W.W.II! This book is written having at its core a doctoral thesis, a work of textual analysis of 6 different versions of "confession". These "confessions" or interrogations are extremely important because they are the SINGLE statements made by an SS officer who acknowledges the alleged organized mass-gassings of Jewish prisoners in German war-concentration camps! This "confessions" are widely quoted, but we are very surprised to see that Mr. Roques proves that most of quotations are wrong and distorted because the authors who made the quotations wanted to eliminate the fantasist and impossible facts told by Gerstein! Anyone who reads the real versions of the confessions is struck by their lack of consistency, they being very close to a science-fiction story! The work of Mr. Roques is excellent and very courageous, because of the fanatism of the defenders of these stories! Any reader who will finish the book, will find the facts so clear indicating that this "confessions" are pure fantasies, having no resemblance with the reality!

  2. This is not anti-semitic as one reviewer has claimed. It's a thesis which proves once and for all that the statements made by Kurt Gerstein are in the realms of pure fantasy. The fact that Holocaust scholars have often cited Gerstein as a credible witness is very revealing. If you read "The Holocaust" by Martin Gilbert you will see how he has altered Gersteins' description of the gas chambers in order to make it more credible! Gilbert is not alone in this blatant altering of the text.

It is well worth your time to read this and see the implausibility of the "confessions".

  3. Here is the headline-making university doctoral dissertation that debunks the key "Holocaust" testimony of SS officer Kurt Gerstein -- the enigmatic, twisted Third Reich functionary who claimed to have witnessed mass gassings of Jews in 1942. In this closely argued study a French scholar subjects Gerstein's accusations to critical examination, striking at the very roots of the Holocaust extermination story. The stunning conclusion: not only are Gerstein's allegations of mass killings of Jews groundless, but prominent Holocaust historians have deliberately manipulated and falsified key parts of Gerstein's tortured testimony. This powerful exposé and its author made world headlines in 1986 when, for the first time in the nearly eight-century history of French universities, a duly awarded doctorate was revoked by government order. Gerstein's bogus "confessions" were the basis of the anti-German and anti-Catholic hysteria stirred by Rolf Hochhuth's play "The Deputy." Roques' study thus shatters the myth of a Vatican cover-up of Holocaust genocide. British historian Hugh Trevor-Roper (Lord Dacre) praised this study as "an entirely legitimate, scholarly and responsible work of Quellenkritik [source critique] on a limited but important subject." Michel de Bouard of the Institut de France declared: "Had I been a member of the jury, I would probably have given a grade of 'very good' to Mr. Roques' thesis." Includes transcripts and translations of all six versions of Gerstein's "testimonies," as well as facsimiles of the original texts and other previously unpublished documents and records. Translated from the French by Ronald Percival, who also provides a foreword. A scholarly revisionist classic and an indispensable resource for scholar and layman alike!

  4. Seriously, this is part of a political not educational-oriented movement. Noontide Press, Institute of Historical Review, Henri Roques, & David Irving are among a small group of "revisionists" that try to give the impression that they know what they are talking about. Anyone that knows anything about history no longer respects any of their opinions as anything but distortions of reality. PLEASE PASS ON THE POLITICAL PROPAGANDA PACKAGED AS AN EDUCATIONAL THESIS.

  5. The book is nonsense. If it was truly accepted as a doctoral dissertation, the University on Nantes has lowered its standing as an academy valuing truth. Interested readers are directed to Saul Friedlander's biography: Kurt Gerstein: The Ambiguity of Good (apparently OUP and not available from Amazon). Gerstein's account has been affirmed by, among others, some of the people who were there and were later tried (see Gitta Sereny's Into That Darkness for interviews with Franz Stangl and others). Finally, Yitzhak Arad's Belzec, Sobibor, Treblinka: The Operation Reinhard Death Camps gives a definitive look at these institutions.

1 comments about Like Leaves in the Wind (The Library of Holocaust Testimonies).
  1. This beautifully written memoir documents the author's childhood as a Polish Jew who fled with her parents from Krakow, Poland ahead of the German army. Eventually deported to a forced labor camp deep in Soviet Russia, this story of survival is also a testament of love-the love of a large family whose Polish roots extend back more than 500 years and the love of undemonstrative Victorian parents who sought to shelter their young daughter from the horror of their surroundings.

"Like Leaves in the Wind" chronicles the decency of simple Russian peasants and fellow deportees who endure unspeakably harsh winters and bug-infested summers. The reality of their desperate conditions and their ultimate survival come vividly to life in the pages of this book.

Having endured the Russian camp, the author and her parents returned to Krakow in 1946 and only then learn the fate of most of their extended family. There, this child of ten also encounters the mindless cruelty of Polish school children whose anti-Semitism ostracizes her to a lonely existence in which books become her companions.

The author provides a valuable glimpse into life in a Russian forced labor camp, recounted through the eyes of an innocent child. The book offers insights into the forced deportation of more than one million Polish citizens (Jewish as well as Christian) to the USSR during World War II, an aspect of the war that has not been widely chronicled.

The author's personal recollections are enhanced by a series of postcards from her grandmothers to her parents in Russia, discovered in her father's papers following his death. Never discussed during her parents' life, the postcards offer glimpses into the lives of Jews in Poland and Russia after 1939.

Decades after she and her parents returned to Poland and then emigrated to France and finally to the United States, Rita Blattberg Blumstein has fashioned a record that goes well beyond the dangers and hardships they endured in war torn Poland and Russia. This memoir is a valuable addition to the testimony of Holocaust survivors.

1 comments about Heroes of Israel: Profiles of Jewish Courage.
  1. These are selections from the long record of Jewish heroism, selections of those whose names and stories are well- known from King David down to the rescuers of Entebbe. This is a very small selection of the many many Jews who often in a quiet and unknown way showed great courage in defending their own people. What is somewhat sad is that the ranks of these heroes , and often these martyrs , are growing all the time because of the constant effort of enemies to destroy the Jewish people. The stories of the great great majority of those who have fought with courage, defended their people and often paid the greatest price for it, are largely untold.
