   This book was very good and I learned a lot about baseball history. I read the book fast because I could not put it down it was so interesting. It was a baseball autobiography book that teaches so much about the wonderful world of baseball. This was a great style of writing. There were some surprises in the story. One was when Ichiro Suzuki joined the MLB. There were no cliffhangers through out the book. This was not a boring book at all. If you like baseball you would love this book. I would read more of this authors books so I could learn about other sports. I would recommend this book to others because they would learn about the exciting world of baseball history

1. Dr. Hubbard presents a story of imprisonment under the Japanese that no one would soon forget. While it contains all of the ingredients of a first rate war memoir, this is no mere tale. The author waited some 40 years to tell his story and has taken the benefit of that time and his extensive education (he holds a PhD in history from Vanderbilt) to analyze and evaluate his thoughts and responses to torture and deprivation. A fine historian, he is able to look past the animosity that anyone would feel toward former torturers and give a detailed and exciting account of a man facing the extremes of human brutality. It is this perspective that sets this book apart from so many other books by former POW's. In a day when "Saving Private Ryan" has introduced a new generation to the realities of the second World War in Europe, this book would well serve to introduce any interested reader to the conditions present in the war in the Pacific. A very readable and engrossing book for any age of teen to adult. My highest recommendation.

In her struggle for survival she meets and falls in love with a fellow prisoner, whose child she bears, at great risk, and in the face of opposition from fellow inmates and captors alike.
   Sams' story, expertly and sensitively edited, is a frank and touching love story as well as an epic of survival, and will be of interest to students of 20th-century American culture and mores as well as WWII readers.

2. Whether you're interested in WWII or not you'll love this book. Wonderfully written, this emotional tale of love under the most dire circumstances is sure to make you laugh, cry, feel. Margaret and Jerry Sams are an inspiration to all. And even at 90 their love is still as strong as ever.
