1 comments about Lilian Gish : The Actor's Life For Me.
  1. The Actor's Life For Me is a short documentary about Lillian Gish and her career. Since her career spanned from the early 1900s until the 1980s when she made her last film, she is certainly a great candidate to have a film made about her. The wonderful thing about this particular one is that she is the one who tells the story. Not only does this make it more personal, but it also makes it more interesting. One can tell that Gish was sharp as a tack in her old age and could speak about her career for hours if she wanted to.

This film features many film clips not only from very old silent films (wonderfully scored by Carl Davis) but of rare footage of Griffth directing, his funeral, and Gish accepting an award in the 80s.

The only problem with this documentary is that it is short and grazes over specific films. It is mostly about the late teens and early twenties; Gish's sound career and stage career after films is only mentioned in passing. However, the fact that Miss Gish tells the story herself is reason enough to buy this documentary.

  1. What I like about this video is its authentic voice. Even if the viewer is not a student of art nor a connoisseur they will find the people in this video have something important to give them. In essence, we are all artists when viewed through Laurie McDonald's camera. Check it out. These Houston, Texas folk artists inspired me, made me laugh and most of all made me want to see their work. This is art that lives and is created every day. Outstanding!

4 comments about Ranch Album.
  1. I have a friend in Modesto that has had this video for a few years and we have all loved watching it over and over. It is wonderfully documented, like a national geographic special, with original music and real ranch cowboys and their wives and children. Excellent for family viewing, school reports, show and tell. Great gift for a child who loves to watch other children riding horses and roping and branding in real life, humbly and auuthentically, helping their parents. Also, great talk-overs, interviews by the real cowboys and their families.

  2. I have known the Steiger brothers for almost 15 years. My mother and father had lived on the Yolo ranch when they where filming this video. They hit the true meaning of family and comradery among friends and co workers.I lost my father 7 years ago and pull this video out from time to time and view it for the memories. I deeply suggest this video for all childern who think thier lives are hard.

  3. This documentary is reminiscent of the American spirit. These folks existed when punching cows involved skill, talent, and know how. These folks not only got their full load cycle complete through any weather, they protected their livestock. Nowadays, city slickers have encroached on ranch lands thereby causing ranches to either sell out or become more 'commercialized'. Here in a traditional cowpuncher town in Central AZ, we are witnessing the transition of ranch land to rural to suburban to urban. With every big box store and with every ranch being sold, cowpunchers are seemingly disappearing. But, every now and again, I meet someone having a whiskey that is wearing a hat with character, boots that have seen a few miles, and a face that can stare down an eagle. These are my role models and Ranch Album is the very essence of Cowboy.

  4. Having lived on this ranch for 10 years and having seen this video before anyone really knew about it I can say its one great piece of work, amazingly enough i'm in it as a small child about 7 or 8 at the time I am now 28 I have alot of memories of the area and knew almost everyone in the film. If your a cowboy fan this is a great film to get. I highly recommend it.

  1. This documentary is moving beyond words. I was emotionally moved throughout the entire film to hear the stories of such tragic and highly publicized hate crimes. But, most importantly I was left with a great sense of hope - knowing that a film like this has the opportunity to touch so many people and educate people to create a hate free world. Great job filmmakers.
