2 comments about The Last Fast White Boy: A Memoir.
- The author has done an excellent job taking the reader back into the time of his youth in Huntington and Marshall College. The reader will be drawn to the past and the memories of their own youth. Unfortunately, not only are the fonder memories brought to mind, but also the social injustices of segreation and the unsettling years of the Vietnam War. Most will find this book very enjoyable to read, and the trip back to their youth entertaining and mind opening.
- The main reason I purchase this book is because I am the HUGEST college football fan. I thought the name sounded pretty catchy and was interested to check it out.
When I finally got around to reading it, I found out that it was basically some guy telling stories about his growing up and going to Marshall to play football. He wasn't even a very good football player and the book got it's title from a conversation with one of his coaches after they crossed paths years after he graduated form Marshall. He tells so many boring stories about him and his friends growing up together. If this book can get published, then so could any book by anyone who ever played college football.

1 comments about Ditka.
- Mike Ditka didn't always have good times, or good luck. What Mike has is drive, hope, goals, believe in himself and some great experiences with family, friends & team mates.
It wasn't always easy playing hurt, but Mike endured tremendous odds and kept coming back time after time. Mike had the best of his athletic and human abilities surface time after time. He is a legend and then some. Play with him, enjoy the game. Play against him and feel the pain.

1 comments about Road to Canton.
- Road To Canton is the exciting sports biography of Marcus Allen, who set his sights on his boyhood dream of earning a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and defied critics to earn eleven seasons with the Raiders, an NFL Most Valuable Player award, five seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award, and finally the achievement of his lasting dream with his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Gorgeous color photography illustrates this vivid and exciting life story which is highly recommended reading for football fans of all ages.

1 comments about The Packer Tapes: My 32 Years With the Green Bay Packers.
- So you think a team trainer simply wraps ankles and takes care of injuries? Read this book and you will find that he does much more. The Packer Tapes: My 32 Years With the Green Bay Packers by Dominic Gentile informs the reader that he can also play the part of a sounding board to players and coaches alike, be a personal advisor, and even making personnel suggestions to the coaching staff.
The Packer Tapes contains interesting tidbits from someone who was as close to being a part of the team as could possibly be, but actually wasn't. Hired by the legendary coach, Vince Lombardi, and employed by the Packers through Mike Holmgren's first season, Gentile, who obviously was also a diehard Packer fan besides being the team trainer, offers his opinion of both of those coaches as well as those who were sandwiched in between. He also sheds insight about many of the players that he worked with through those years and dispells some myths about a few of the players and the team. For instance, many Packer fans probably thought that Sterling Sharpe was an introverted individual because he didn't speak to the local press. Gentile reveals that Sharpe was actually very vocal, outgoing, and even a prankster in the locker room. Another bit of Sharpe information disclosed was that he played with injuries and pain much of the time and still was able to perform at a top-notch level. Reading this book approximately nine years after it was published (the book was published after the 1994 season; this reviewer read the book and wrote this review in February, 2004) provided - maybe inadvertently - some interesting and amazingly accurate observations. It almost appeared that Gentile could see into the future. For instance, his take on Brett Favre: He hoped that the Packers would stick with Favre because he thought that he was "something special." Favre went on to win three MVPs and has led the Packers to the Super Bowl. On Mike Holmgren: Dom always felt that the Packers' head coaches after Lombardi -and until Holmgren - worked the players too hard in training camp and practice, leaving them with a low energy level for the games. He felt that Holmgren would have success that the preceding coaches couldn't achieve. Holmgren went on to win a Super Bowl with the Packers. It's obvious that Gentile was very observant and a good judge of character. In a nutshell: The Packer Tapes is an easy read, insightful, with viewpoints and stories from someone with the inside scoop, who probably knew the coaches and especially the players better than anyone. I don't know if non-Packer fans would like the book - they might. But Packer backers are sure to enjoy it.

5 comments about Rice.
- RICE IS INDEPTH BUT NOT ENOUGH. RIGHT WHEN YOU FEEL THAT YOU'RE REALLY GETTING TO KNOW THIS AMAZING ATHLETE, IT STOPS AND COMES UP SHORT. THE BOOK DOESN'T GO INDEPTH ENOUGH. BUT IT DOES GIVE A GLIMPSE OF A GREAT ATHLETE WITH A DRIVE NO ONE COULD EVER DOUBT. OVERALL, IF YOU WANT TO LEARN A LITTLE SOMETHING ABOUT "FLASH 80", READ THIS BOOK
- This is a great book about one of the greatest athletes to ever play in the NFL. You really get to know Jerry and how he approaches the game that he loves. A must read for any die-hard Jerry Rice fans. I recently met Jerry in person and had him autograph his book for me. He's a great person and a tremendous athlete.
- I read the book and now i know more about how he plays the game of football.
- This is a great Auto-Biography of Jerry Rice. The pictures are excellent, and the writing is also great.
- JERRY RICE IS PROBABLY THE BEST WIDE RECEIVER OF ALL TIME. BUT THIS BOOK IS NOT. IT HAS SOME GREAT COLOR PHOTOS OF GAME ACTION AND OF JERRY AND HAS FAMILY. BUT THE REST OF IT LACKS ALOT. IF YOU LIKE VERY PLAIN AND UNDETAILED FACTS ABOUT JERRY THEN THIS IS FOR YOU. MOST OF THE BOOK IS PHOTOS, SOME STATS AND SOME VERY GENERIC FACTS ABOUT RICE AND HIS CAREER. TO ME IT IS NOT BAD BUT SOMEWHAT DISAPPOINTING.
