2 comments about Discombobulated: An Inspiring Journey of Hope Through Mental Illness.
- I found "Discombobulated" to be a very heartbreaking and yet inspiring story of the author's experience with mental illness. It was wonderfully written and literally takes a person inside the head of the author. This book should be read by anyone whose life has been touched by mental illness in any way.
- Discombomulated is a powerful story of one woman's experience with mental illiness. Commentary by the therapist which parallels the author's perception of therapy is very insightful. This well written book provides a realistic portrait of life with mental illiness.

5 comments about Doc Susie: The True Story of a Country Physician in the Colorado Rockies.
- Doc susie was a very good book. I enjoyey how Susan Anderson made her dreams possible.
- This is a worthwhile book for those who enjoy reading about 19th and early 20th century medicine, or the trials of women country doctors. It does not venture into the medical beliefs of the time, but one can gather this information reading between the lines. Doc Susie's story inspires awe at the great sacrifices she made in order to practice medicine.
- Doc Susie embodied a hardy pioneer spirit in the face of dreadful odds. TB, a general disregard for women physicians and awful living conditions in the high country of Colorado pretty much sums up what she faced at her new post. Not to worry........she prevailed! While she longed for a traditional family (husband and children), it was not to be. She DID make a life for herself, regained her health and brought the best medical help available at the time to the people of the area. Whadda' gal!
- Her story is incredible and inspiring! I had the privilege of going to the Fraser area immediately after reading the book. A museum has some of her things, including items mentioned in the book. I was really moved. You will not regret picking this one up!
- Everyone I know who has read this book loves it. I am a Colorado history buff and have been to that area more than once and know that her life must have been incredibly difficult. What an impact she made on the lives of others by her dedication and sacrifices.

5 comments about DOC: Then and Now with a Montana Physician.
- Doc Losee writes in a wonderfully refreshing style that brings the reader into an inevitable friendship with him. Medicine may never be like this again, but Doc has left a record of what is once was. The day I finished this book I wrote a letter to Doc Losee, and imagine my surprise when less than a week later, I received a personal note back from him. I have it on my wall in my study to remind me of this beautiful little book written by the Yale-educated country doctor
- This is a wonderful heart filled story of what it was like being a doctor when you had very little supplies, but a whole lot of heart!! It is a book that will hold a place on honor in my library, not only because I have met the author, but mainly because it is a part of our country's heritage. Dr. Losee's stories are told so that you can picture them in your mind and see what it was like to be in that era. Some make you laugh, others make you cry. I compare his writing to that of James Harriot; both writers make you feel like you are there with them.
- This was an excellent book and would like to have this man as my doctor. He gave an excellent picture of what doctoring was like in a small town, what his philosophy of being a doctor is and his criticism of non doctors making doctor decisions. He is critical of law suits and the problems of liability insurance costs that he could not afford. He is down to earth and not afraid to say that mistakes can and are made. Some medical terms might slow someone not familiar with them.
- Doc Losee was my family doctor growing up in Ennis, Montana- my brother's birth is mentioned briefly in the book. He was and is the best country doctor, with brains and skill and heart and humor- a true straight shooter. I am so proud to know him and his wife Olive.
- This book could have really used an editor. I assume most doctors frown on home surgery by amateurs and not every doctor can write. I often had to reread portions several times. The content was great, just some very poorly constructed sentences.

5 comments about The Man with the Iron Tattoo and Other True Tales of Uncommon Wisdom: What Our Patients Have Taught Us about Love, Faith and Healing.
- In this book, two neurologists recall memorable cases in their practices and events in their personal lives where their patients taught them valuable lessons about life. The stories reveal very human and humorous aspects of these eminent physicians' personalities. Some of the accounts are sad, others almost incredible, and still others will have you chuckling and shaking your head. In many chapters, the spotlight shines on the patients - not on the doctors. This is a unique book with stories you will want to share with family and friends.
- I must caution readers that this review may be biased - Dr. John Castaldo has been a close personal friend for over 20 years.
To me the book is more than stories of love, faith and healing. It's the story of two human beings who, as they become more skilled as physicians, struggle to become more human, in a profession that is simultaneously life-and-death, and often dehumanizing.
I visited John daily while his son David was in the hospital. I remember the hundreds of cuts on David's body, and the grief expressed by John and his family. But I also remember his determination that David would recover.
This is not a superstar ("look at all the great things I did") type of book. There are successes mixed with sadness, and perhaps failures. But that is the human drama of life. The book is worth buying and reading.
- I bought this book after reading an excerpt of the story about David in Catholic Digest. This is a very enjoyable book and definitely should be read by health care providers.
Greg .. a dentist
- Excellent reading, should be required for any one entering the medical profession. These stories explain why we go into medicine
- I learned about this book after reading about Dr Castaldo's son's accident in Catholic Digest. I ordered the book and once I started reading the book I couldn't put it down. A must read book. I'm passing it on to my daughter who is going into the medical field. It renews one's faith in doctors who really do care. Lorraine Schoedler, Allentown, PA
