2 comments about Descent II: The Official Strategy Guide (Prima's Secrets of the Games).
- This book has good info on single player. It can lead you right through the 24 levels. That sometimes takes the fun out of it. I mean it just shows you how to get through it and out of there. It also provides good info on weapons and powerups. Some of it disagrees with my opinion though. They really should make an multiplayer strategy guide for it. It is better for you in helping you in single player, plus it helps you in multiplayer. I play on the internet on a gaming service. This does not give jack diddly squat about multiplayer. The 4 pages they put into it provides me with info that is already known. I give this 2 stars because it makes single too easy. I give this 2 stars because it doesn't say anything about multiplayer. And I give it 2 stars because some of the weapons it shows disagrees with what I think.
- Yes, this book will show you all the maps of all the levels, and the placement of robots, powerups, etc., but I thought it was hard to follow. The maps are all in B&W and take a little study to read and follow. Though if you use them from the start, they are easier to use. I found little in there about strategy. It mainly repeats the advice the game give you. E.g., to defeat the Boss on level 12, its advice is to refer to what the intro to level 12 states. Yes, it's nice to see the maps and where all the robots are located, but this book could've been so more for such a great game!

2 comments about Dancing on Tisha B'av.
- Snippets of day to day life, told from the viewpoint of being both Gay & Jewish, with which any Gay man can identify regardless of his religion. Enlightening for anyone Jewish who believes Gays must be different from straights; comforting in its affirmaton that we are not unique in our feelings.
- As a fellow gay Jew, I was very interested in reading these short stories. And I was not disappointed. Each story was so well-written and really hit home. The impact of the Holocaust on our generation is not to be underestimated and as a gay Jewish man, this seems all that more powerful. The most moving story was that of Great Aunt Rose (ironically I also had a Great Aunt Rose). That reallz made me think, espeiallz how Raphael says that Americans always want to analyze. I really thought that the story written for class was so wonderful. Imagine my surprise when Rose is just devastated.

2 comments about Raphael Semmes and the Alabama (Civil War Campaigns and Commanders Series).
- I enjoyed this book. Took me awhile to read but very enjoyable. Civil War on the high seas!
- 11 Jan 1863 in the Gulf of Mexico
"The two ships were within hailing distance when Blake (Lieutenant-Comander Homer C. Blake) demanded his opponent's identity. In what Porter (Admiral David Porter) called 'pure perfidy, such as a Zulu warrior would resort to.' Semmes identified his ship as Her Britannic Majesty's steamer Petrel. Reassured, Blake demanded the right to inspect the ship's registry in accordance with international law. After a boat had been lowered and was underway from the Hatteras. Semmes called out. 'This is the Confederate States steamer Alabama. FIRE'.
The first broadside from the Alabama was decisive, the Hatteras staggering under its force."
Spencer C. Tucker writes a fun book on the history and exploits of the famous Condeferate raider The Alabama. He includes some nice maps, drawings and photos for the reader. Not many books write about the other side of the War, the Naval part. So this book is welcomed. The Union navy was crucial in the War with it's blockades and for the Confederate's it was crucial to try to defeat the blockaders.
What would you do as the Captain of the Alabama as the Union Navy searches the high seas for you with every ship it can?
