  1. You would think that a person responsible for creating one of the most timelessly amusing & culturally enduring images would at least be granted a modicum of respect by getting the name of the painting correct. Not so for Cassius Marcellus Coolidge, the artist who created what has remained the most popular "guy" picture ever -- "A Friend in Need" -- most commonly referred to as "Dogs Playing Poker." Without a doubt, this is one of the most phenomenally fun paintings ever created by an American artist -- the anthropomorphic animal is always a laugh, but this one is truly the best. Unfortunately, most people don't even know about C.M. Coolidge or the many other "dogs as humans" (or is it "humans as dogs"?) images he created throughout his lifetime. Educate yourself a little about the man behind one of the most enduring images of all time. And contrary to what most people say, "A Friend in Need" is not only for men and their bathrooms/pool halls/game rooms, but it's also a fun piece of art for women & all dog lovers!
