  1. I've owned three pairs of these boots over the last ten years or so. They're comfortable, and they meet my needs on a daily basis. I've used them for light hiking, fishing, camping, and snow removal, and they perform admirably in most conditions. For the price, they're an excellent all-around boot. The only time they've really fallen short is when I've been climbing steep, sandy trails and doing some minor bouldering. They weren't designed for this, and they tend to slip when you really have to dig in. A vibram sole would probably fix this.

Overall a good boot for everyday wear. For serious hiking and trekking, however, go with a Merrell or Vasque.

  1. I picked up a pair of these in the US recently and bought them back to Sydney Australia. I am very happy with them. I have a wide foot and there was just about no break in time - they were very comfortable the first time I put them on. They are not heavy - just right. The cushion effect of the sole is excellent - no complaints and worth the money.

5 comments about Men's Keen Targhee II.

  1. This is my 2nd pair of Keens. The first, sandals, have been everywhere from swimming in the ocean to going out to dinner and still look and feel new. I'm a hard to fit guy (Size 14) and these fit just right. Probably the most comfortable shoes I own. Pay the extra bucks and get good shoes. It's worth it.

  2. I saw the shoe and liked the look so I asked for my size. When the sales assistant brought it out I quickly laced them up and put them on. I was blown away. When the sales rep returned and asked how they were I said "These are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn" and that was no exaggeration. He went on to mention that they build their shoes not based on shoe size but on arch length. I don't know what that means in terms of the science of how the foot operates but they seem to be onto something. This is a comfy well made shoe it's functionality will be put to the test out on the trail.

  3. Outstanding stable shoe, roomy forefoot that is supportive on sharp rocks, as well as a heel that doesn't slip. Getting both of those in one shoe has been a long standing problem for me. It is also quick to get in and out of.
I feel I made an excellent purchase!

  4. These boots from Keen are an excellent choice if, like me, you wear orthotics and/or need a wide toebox. Very roomy shoe and flexible enough not to need much breaking in when you first wear them. Should be heavy-duty enough for some day hiking -- so far, I've only worn them around town and they're great on rainy days.

  5. From the same company that makes the terrific "Newport H2" sandal with the super natural "metaomical design" fit. The Keen Targhee is like wearing a Humvee for your feet. It with waterproof construction for dry feet and an agressive outsole with 4 millimeter lugs that bite deep into the terrain for excellent traction. And they have the famous Keen toe bumper.

It is very waterproof as I can attest to. The waterproof leather upper helps keep feet dry on rainy days and muddy trails. It has an interior waterproof liner bootie too. The special carbon rubber outsoles are similar to the ones on the Keen Sandals, very grippy and non-marking, and they never seem to show any wear. They are multi-directional and dig in, but are not slippery on wet surfaces like rocks or cement in rain or surf. They come in few colors, but the colors have weird names. "Shadow" is an olive for example.

It has a good secure fit laceup capture system that do not come untied like my other tennies did. THe straps have a little reflective feature to them. Htey have a nice pull-on strap at the heel. They are light in weight at only 14 ounces for the pair. On sizing, I reccommend buying one full size larger than usual.

  1. The duck shoes was purchased so that I could play golf in the rain and mud at our local municipal golf course. 3-stars because there is a leak in the left shoe (from day-one) by the big toe. I can't locate the leak since it must be microscopic, but there is a leak. Other than this small problem the shoes are O.K. The shoes are about 1 to 1-1/2 size larger than average (as expressed by other reviewers).

  2. Great waterproof boots at a great price. Sizing tip:if wearing average weight athletic socks, you might want a half size smaller.

  3. The shoes were a gift for my dad. They seem to be made well. His only complaint was that the tongue wasn't very long. Old duck shoes had tongues that folded over. With these the tongues slide back in the shoes when you're slipping them on and it's hard to get a hold of them to prevent this.
