5 comments about Converse Men's All Star Hi.

  1. I always liked the way they looked, but thought they were too expensive for the simplicity.
Mind, living here in New Mexico is realy hot so after looking for some fresh shoes I finally decided to give these Converse a shot.

Pleasently suprised as I was, these things actually are as comfy as everyone always says. Not too much ankle support unless you lace them up tight though. But I found they can be evrything you want them to be. For support, lace them tight. For more comfort and ventilation, lace them loose. On top of that they fit with every pair of pants, even dress pants.

My feet are not hot anymore and walking has become more enjoyable.

  2. The shoes are great, and the shipping time was reasonable, as was the price. A warning: not all types can be shipped to Canada, which is frustrating to find out just as you're finishing up an order.

  3. Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars are not just a fashion statement. Back in the day, they were my choice of athletic footwear -- following in my father's footsteps -- while starting center on the high school basketball team. For a 6'2" white guy with a moderate vertical leaping ability, I didn't have to worry about losing any spring in my step, and I always led stats in rebounds and blocked shots against players wearing the then-ubiquitous Adidas, Puma and Converse "Dr. J" hi-tops. In all fairness, and as a disclaimer, 80% of the opposing team members were white guys, too.

Still, though I have absolutely no vertical leap left (hey. I graduated 24 years ago), I still wear these shoes, just because. Like one reviewer pointed out, they're a great conversation starter. Plus, they're as comfy as a second pair of feet.

At the turn of the 20th to the 21st century, it appeared that there'd be NO Chucks left at all: The Massachusetts factory was closing down, and Chucks appeared to be going the way of acid-wash jeans. Fortunately (or, unfortunately, if you're a member of the garment workers' union), Converse went through some reorganization and now makes these overseas, presumably in China.

Well, I'm boycotting the People's Republic of China, an anti-labor country that has helped more American CEOs bust unions than just about anyone else. Its own people are slave labor. Fortunately, I thought ahead, so when Converse was on the ropes, I went out to every shoe store around and bought up all the size 12 hi tops I could find. To be exact, 143 pairs -- a closet full. I've got 'em in white, optical white, green, red, basic black, navy blue, yellow, orange, you name it. Set me back $2700, but was worth every penny, knowing that American workers made them.

I AM THE IMELDA MARCOS OF CONVERSE CHUCK TAYLOR ALL-STAR SHOES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But, if you're a newcomer to them, or missed the boat, I won't hate ya for buying these for yourselves. They are so cool, I'll look the other way.

I have to look the other way myself: I buy the toddler sizes for my two wittle one. Aw!!!! :) At least I help keep American shoe store employees employed, if not factory workers.

  4. I absolutely love my red Chucks. They are a timeless look that can be worn with your favorite jeans, tailored slacks, or a mini. And at such a great price, a better buy than the more modern sneakers in the same category. The shoes do run big, so be sure to the follow the suggestion of ordering two sizes smaller than your normal shoe size. I recieved my order from Eastbay within 3 days of purchase.

  5. When I first started buying them I had at least 4 different colors of the high-tops. I loved the broad spectrum of colors. However, about 3 years ago the company was bought out. The prices almost doubled. What was a cool shoe for about $20 is now $40-50.
They have no arch support, sometimes you can see the glue, the shoelaces are often not long enough to lace up the whole shoe, and they wear out pretty quickly (of course that's because I wear them nearly every single day) - that's not what I expect from a $50 shoe!
They also seem to be issuing them in fewer shades. I have had trouble in times past finding the right shade of green or purple.

I still love the shoe, and still own 1 pair of navy blue ones, but I find them hard to recommend to others.

I recently was in Thailand where they make the shoes and they were $21 in the stores. I was so excited to see them in the colors I want at the price I used to pay!... but it annoyed me to realize - I'm paying $19-29 each pair for the shipping costs + more markup for the American stores....

  1. I had been trying to get back into running on a regular basis after taking about a year long hiatus. I bought a new pair of running shoes and attempted to become a runner again, but my knees wouldn't let me. I saw a sports doctor about the pain I was experiencing in my knees when running. He diagnosed me with iliotibial syndrome and recommended multiple things to me, one of them being to purchase some superfeet. The pain in my knees immediately begain to go away after using superfeet. The arch support they offered was particularly beneficial to me being that I have normal to high arches. I determined that was my problem before- poor arch support. If you have low arches or more flat feet you'll probably want to go with the blue superfeet instead, because the arches on these green feet are firm and high and they'll dig in to your mid soles. My only complaint is that I think they could be a little cheaper ($35 in the store), being that it's just some foam and plastic. However, it's still worth the price to align your feet and relieve your body. Thumbs up.

  2. a great product. it was recommended to me by my sports doctor and i have been using these for the past three years. am so hooked to these that even though i now live in singapore i get people to bring them to me from the states....

  3. Used superfeet for years, Green is still my favorite for my workout and running shoes. I use the greys for cycling though.

  1. My son is happy with this new pair of shoes.Nice appearance and seems to be long lasting materials, for him are comfortable too!

  2. Our 2 year old still has a thick layer of baby fat on top of his feet and his feet are wide too. These shoes are great and they are wide enough so that his toes do not overlap as with other athletic shoes that come to more of a point at the tip. So if your little one has chubby feet he will love these shoes...and you will too!

  3. I bought these shoes for my two year old son. He was just thrilled and did not want to take them off. THe shoes are solid and look great on. I got exactly what i paid for - great shoes.

  4. These shoes are, in fact, 'skate shoes'. A skate shoe is a skater type shoe...it refers to the style, NOT having wheels on it. The design of the shoe is similar to DC's, Addidas, Etnies, etc..

  5. This is a very nice, high quality shoe that is comfortable and cute for my son. Please note that it is a skateboard style shoe and does not include wheels (like a Heely). Also note that a toddler could not safely skate or skateboard, so that this shoe is for style only.
